Deserves its own thread... Socceroos to be broadcast on 9 live.

http://www.fourfourtwo.com.au/news/nine-to-televise-socceroos-qualifiers-438793

Nine Network will broadcast the Socceroos’ remaining 2018 World Cup qualifiers live in a major boost for the game and Australian football fans.
The news comes days out from this week’s qualifiers against Saudi Arabia in Jeddah on Friday morning (4.45am AEDT) before facing Japan at Docklands in Melbourne on Tuesday night (kick off 8pm AEDT).

The Nine Network will provide a simulcast broadcast of the matches alongside Fox Sports, in a huge boost for football fans around Australia.

“This is a great result for football, tremendous news for Socceroos fans around Australia,” FFA CEO David Gallop said.

“We welcome the undeniable sports broadcast expertise of Channel Nine on board for what will be two massive games for the Socceroos in the road to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

“The game against Saudi Arabia is a top of the table clash with both teams winning the first two World Cup Qualifiers and the match against Japan is one of the showpiece international matches in Asian Football.

“We have always stated our desire to have a commercial free to air network to work with Fox Sports in delivering football to the Australian public and this is a positive sign that football is valued highly by the commercial FTA networks.”

Ange Postecoglou’s men sit on top of Group B in final stage qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Fox Sports commentary duo Simon Hill and Andy Harper will be behind the mic calling all eight games for both networks.

Fox Sports Head of Live Sport and News Steve Crawley said: “The Socceroos are off to a flyer in their World Cup qualifying campaign, and fans will be able to continue to watch all the action live and ad break free during play on Fox Sports with the country’s best commentary team guiding them through every match.

“It’s a great outcome for the fans, and I’m sure the whole country will get right behind our men in gold.”

Nine Network Director of Sport Tom Malone said: “Wide World of Sports is thrilled to be broadcasting these World Cup qualifiers as the Socceroos once again prepare to take on the world at the 2018 World Cup.

“While Australia is confident, qualification is by no means guaranteed. These matches will provide great insight into the Socceroos chances on the world stage.”

This is really great news. It's great that a FTA network wants football, it's great that the game's domestic brand leader is on FTA (LIVE!) for the first time in something like a decade and it's great that kids can watch the games whether or not their parents stump for Fox.

Fox's release talks up their expert commentators...

with the country’s best commentary team guiding them through every match.

...so I'm guessing they'll have their own.

That said, Fox will have Andy Harper, plus the likes of Mark Bosnich and Ned Zelic in the studio so that might not be the strength that Fox thinks it is...

Disappointing, hoping for Karl Stefanovic as anchor with special comments from Rebecca Wilson and Buzz Rothfield

Watched the game on Foxtel, so who was on the 9Go panel ???

Or did 9 just piggy back off of Foxtel's coverage ???

I was seriously surprised that Nine didn`t have Ray Warren, Fatty & Sterlo doing the commentary with Fittler on the sideline
