1-1 Mariners – Hoole 23’

Liam Rose’s defence-splitting pass found Hoole in acres of space and he made no mistake with the finish slotting low past Dean Bouzanis' outstretched left foot.

2-1 City – Fitzgerald 53’

Fornaroli and Fitzgerald combined with the latter performing a trademark cut onto his left foot before finishing at the far post.

2-2 Mariners – Hoole 55’

A cynical foul on Josh Bingham by Osama Malik on the edge of the area opened the door for Hoole to show his set piece ability, with his powerful strike beating Bouzanis in the bottom corner.

3-2 City – Fornaroli 61’

Scott Jamieson’s quick free-kick played Fornaroli through with two defenders to beat and he teased his way past both before finishing with aplomb past Tom Glover.

Mariners keeper Ben Kennedy got their first, he fumbled the ball into the youngster’s path and he tapped into and open net.
Good start Ben. Looking very weak in the keepers. Glover better be good

I'm still dumbfounded as to:
a) why we signed Kennedy &
b) why we signed an injured Kennedy !!

I've been keeping an eye on this guy, Chris Oldfield- from VICNPL, for a few years now.

He's THE GUY we should've signed instead of Ivan Necesvki
..... just press 'play' to see him in 'Beast Mode' last weekend to see what I mean

Ex-Liverpool Youth from about 9yo iirc and now has his Aussie Citizenship. He was good enough for John Crawley to give him a short term 'injury replacement' contract for 5 weeks at SydFC last season.

Kennedy is not the worst. I believe he is better than Ivan, Redders and Pasfield but unless Glover is the business then we are going to struggle.
He is a good reserve.

We nearly took him a few years ago as I understand it, though he would have been a visa player at the time and as such they went for Ali Bray instead.

Dipshit Walmsley ?!?
- & that was a weak 'reason' @ the time, the HAL season started that October
..... Oldie got his Aussie papers 3mnths later (& CCM were made well aware of that, that he would be non-visa) in January. ;)

Andrew Hoole bagged a brace against Melbourne City in the club’s narrow 3-2 pre-season loss to Melbourne City in Melbourne.
Melbourne City FC 3 (Arzani 11', Fitzgerald 53', Fornaroli 61') Central Coast Mariners 2 (Hoole 23', 55')

Hooley’s prolific pre-season continued today at the City Football Academy taking his tally in Yellow & Navy to a total of seven goals before coming agonisingly close to scoring his second pre-season hat-trick.

The sides battled it out in a modified time format with one 45 minute and two 30 minute periods in blustery conditions in Bundoora and the contest began with both sides looking to feel their way into the match.

As the tempo picked up, it was City who inflicted the first blow, finding the back of the net after 11 minutes through Arzani. The winger’s dangerous run was honoured by a wonderfully clipped through ball by Fitzgerald, with Mariners keeper Ben Kennedy deflecting into the path of an on-coming attacker, finishing into an open net.

The Mariners didn’t let the early set-back halt their possession-based play and were rewarded after 23 minutes as a line-splitting through ball from Liam Rose found Hoole with acres of space through the City defence. The talented midfielder made no mistake with the finish, slotting low, past Dean Bouzanis' outstretched left foot.

With parity restored, the sides returned to exchanging combinations and as the time ticked down on the opening period, Fornaroli went close to restoring City’s lead. The Uruguayan’s curling effort from the edge of the area was comfortably saved by Ben Kennedy.

A swift combination between Fornaroli and Fitzgerald saw the latter played in to the penalty area as the forward performed a cut onto his left foot before finishing at the far post.

Warren Joyce’s side would be pegged back again minutes later as a cynical foul on Josh Bingham by Osama Malik on the edge of the area opened the door for Hoole to show his set piece arsenal.

The midfielder opted to strike towards the keeper’s side with Bouzanis beaten in the bottom corner by the low, powerful free-kick.

At 2-2, City went on the offensive once again and an audacious effort by Ruon Tongyik from distance almost had his side ahead a minute after conceding.

A cleared throw in saw the defender beat his man to the ball, striking a vicious, dipping volley from 30 yards towards Glover’s goal. A marvelous one-handed save from the shot-stopper saw the Tottenham loanee put the effort into the side netting but City would find their reward shortly after.

With Storm Roux being called offside up the other end seconds before, Scott Jamieson’s quick free-kick played Fornaroli through with two defenders to beat in the forward half.

City’s number 23 teased his way past both Mariners stoppers, finishing with a strike past Glover.

The visitors had the chance to tie the match for the third time minutes before the end of the second period as Luke Brattan fouled Bingham in the penalty area, seeing Hoole step up to the spot.

Hoole thumped his effort into the crossbar, seeing the follow up scrambled away by the City defence.

It's only preseason, sure, but I like what's happening and the confidence this can bring. Just hope this can translate to smashing apart full strength squads playing for sheep stations.
Hoole is going to be an important player. And it's going to be hilarious.

So, assuming 45 mins each for Kennedy & Glover.

Would be interested in what time each of the subs came on and for whom ? telling us a little maybe into Okons plans for each of the respective players & positions

It says it was a 45m and then 2x30mins game, so actually played for 105mins not sure if that is accurate? But Fitzy 2nd goal is named at 53mins which was past Kennedy and 3rd was Fornaroli at 61mins which was past Glover after he made a save just after our 2nd to Hoole

Encouraging result given there were maybe only 4 or 5 definite starting players. Hopefully the likes of DDS, Asdrubal, Brahma, Glover, start getting more game time.

Disappointing Asdy cant even take the bench for a pre season game.
Anyone have any info as to why? I'm just assuming hes unfit as he hasn't played for quite a while

Id also like to know why Hoole is on pens in a pre season where he had scored plenty when we have Bingham who needs some f**king confidence. Would do him the world of good to bang one in against city.

Jets have announced a bunch of preseason games including SFC and the Nix in September. I wonder if any of them will drop in on there way up the freeway. Especially the Nix as they would want to make the trip worthwhile and the two Sydney teams are still in the FFA cup atm

Pity he missed a pen though but seems to be going well playing inside.

Kennedy makes his arrival after a podcast spray that he was still injured.

Giving up early goals still. 11th min this time

Last we'd seen and heard before this game was that he was injured.
We were all surprised to hear of him playing only 2 weeks after hearing of his recurring Achilles problem.
