Paddy Kenny tests positive for ephedrine

Included here, because of our links to Sheffield United.

Sheffield United keeper Paddy Kenny is facing a possible ban after testing positive for a banned drug, it was reported today.

The Republic of Ireland international tested positive for the stimulant ephedrine following last season's play-off semi-final second leg, and will now be subject to a disciplinary inquiry by the Football Association.

It is understood the 31-year-old has been suspended by his club and faces a range of possible sanctions from a reprimand up to a two-year ban.

Ephedrine is on the list of the World Anti-Doping Agency's banned substances but is contained in some cold cures, including a cough mixture Kenny purchased over the counter, and for that reason, a positive test does not carry an automatic two-year suspension.

I hope this doesn't mean Danny being "requested" by the mother club to fill in.....

Wow !

Very good keeper. Hope its not true.

But on the other hand, wish it would work out some way that he is suspended from Sheffield only and therefore is loaned out to us.  :p

Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has been suspended from all football for nine months for failing a drug test, the FA have confirmed.

Blades boss Kevin Blackwell described the ruling as ''harsh'', adding that the club's legal advisers would assess their options soon.

He told Sky Sports News: ''We know Paddy's not a drugs cheat and they've accepted that. We're just considering our options. We think nine months for a mistake out of a medicine chest seems harsh.

hope this doesn't mean Mr Blackwell comes a calling for Danny.........

If Danny was to swap places with Paddy I think it would be beneficial to all concerned. Danny gets a solid stint and taste of OS football, Paddy gets to continue playing football while under the FA ban and have a holiday down under while doing so and the Mariners temporarily exchange one quality keeper for another of an even higher quality.

We might get paddy its an FA ban.......

mmm, interesting post

as was posted above - swap with danny?
You know that would be drawing a long bow considering Danny would struggle to get a visa.
Would this sort of ban be likely to be ratified by Fifa they way Danny's slap did? If it does then he won't be playing anywhere
