ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Never Forget The 96

Tomorrow marks the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster. A horrid set of circumstances that we all hope is never repeated led to 96 of our brothers and sisters in football never coming home from that fateful game..... I write this not as a Manchester United fan, but as a fan of football.  RIP to all of them.

The story.

Of the 96 people who died, only 14 were ever admitted to hospital.

Report findings

In his interim report on 4 August 1989, Lord Justice Taylor wrote that the key element of police control at fault was the failure to close off the tunnel leading to pens 3 and 4 once Gate C had been opened.

He went on to criticise police for their failure to handle the build-up of fans outside the ground properly, and their slow reaction to the unfolding disaster.

Some of his strongest words were reserved for the police commander, Chief Superintendent David Duckenfield, for "failing to take effective control", and South Yorkshire police, who attempted to blame supporters for the crush by arriving at the ground "late and drunk".

The Guardian (UK)'s got a big section on it: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/hillsborough-disaster

Worthwhile reading for anyone too young to remember it. There's still a lot of questions about the day that haven't been answered (police inaction - opening exit gates into the ground, not opening doors in the cages to let people out, not diverting people away from the central pens and not letting ambulances into the ground) and nobody's really been held accountable. It's important to remember it as a horrible tragedy, but also as more than bad luck.

And Murdoch's paper's reaction was absolute filth.

Bradford, Heysel and Hillsborough are some of the most awful images I have ever seen. I remember waking up on a Sunday morning, turning on "Sunday" with Jim Waley and watching what had transpired in Sheffield.

Just terrible it was, and remains a dark day for football, Liverpool FC, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and the idiotic coppers who did bugger-all.

For those young-uns that do not know about Hillsborough, there's a doco on the History Channel at 9.30pm tonight. WARNING; the images you will see are VERY difficult to watch.

RIP, the 96 people that did not come home.
