This competition sounds great apart from the 'team age' rule.  I guess they are targetting the older generation of players because if you have two players around 18 years old in your side the remaining 8 players need to be around 40 years old.

"The average age of the team must be at least 35 years. The age a player is on the 31st
December 2009 will be used. For a 12 player squad, total age must be at least 420
years. For a 10 player squad, total age must be at least 350 years, a 9 player squad,
total age must be at least 315 and so on."

Hmmm looks like a 35's comp to me, why not have it split to under 30 and over 30 there are plenty of 17 - 28 year old who wont be able to play in this comp.

Both good points, Davo and Masmariner.

What we have found in the past is that nobody wants to play against a gun first grade team made up of 18 - 21 year olds......not that there is anything wrong with that, we in the past just never seem to get the depth of teams to compete.

So we opted to find some middle ground. We get alot of father and son combinations wanting to be in the same team. If you have a 45 year old then for sure you can have a 25 year old and so on!

We still get quality players turning up e.g. most of Budgie, Doylo, kanwal, Wyong and Toukley 1st Grade along with a couple of Lightning senior players. Our WPL team played last year and loved the challenge of playing against the men.

Sean Babic is in a team this year! Sean is aged 33 and was lead goal scorer in the NBN comp this year, not to mention his illustrious career.

I suppose it is used to an extent like a salary cap, to keep the comp more even across the board.

I understand your reasoning but I don't think you have done the maths correctly.  Most father and son combinations would be more like a 45 year old father with an 18 year old son.  If you assumed that there were 4 pairs of this father and son combination in a team, the average age of the other two players would need to be about 50.

Is this the first year of this rule being in place?  The competition will still work but I'm sure you would get a heap more players interested if the rule was changed.

7th year running Davo, with 20 teams every year. Can't really accomodate anymore really with field recovery (off season) happening at the same time. Told Mick (Marinermick) that I'd let him know about it (a month or so back, only as an alternative). He said to put it on the site when its ready, so i did.

thanks for the feedback.

Wow that's great to hear then.  Like you said you wouldn't want anymore teams anyway.
