Australia's bid for the 2018 or 2022 World Cup

russia i can understand, Ill probably go to it, but this qatar is bullshi+,
I would at least liked to have lost to the US or JAP where the game is
now building (in a more advanced position than the A-league)
It stinks a lil too much for me

2026 perhaps?

strategy from here, just back the A league as hard as we all can!!
build the game organically.

World Cup Voting
2018
Round 1: England 2 votes, Netherlands/Belgium 4 votes, Spain/Portugal 7 votes and Russia 9 votes (as no absolute majority was reached, the candidate with least amount of votes, England, was eliminated)
Round 2: Netherlands/Belgium 2 votes, Spain/Portugal 7 votes and Russia 13 votes (Russia obtained an absolute majority)
2022
Round 1: Australia 1 vote, Japan 3 votes, Korea Republic 4 votes, Qatar 11 votes, USA 3 votes (Australia eliminated)
Round 2: Japan 2 votes, Korea Republic 5 votes, Qatar 10 votes and USA 5 votes (Japan eliminated)
Round 3: Korea Republic 5 votes, Qatar 11 votes, USA 6 votes (Korea Republic eliminated)
Round 4: Qatar 14 votes and USA 8 votes (Qatar obtained an absolute majority)

If FIFA take a step back to look at this, it is so plainly obvious that this is not a fair system. Look at 2018, round 1, England gets two votes and are therefore bundled out, however by round 2, Russia now has 4 more votes than it did in round 1. Clearly, there has been collusion in the process to get England out early. That isn't fair, I'm not English in any way, but I feel just as sorry for them as I do for all of us.

Why is someone allowed to vote for country A in round 1, and then choose country B over country A in round 2? Have they had a last minute change of mind? Ofcourse not! It is incredible that people are allowed to vote this way, even if there aren't bribes, it is still highly unethical.

Did anyone else sense that Sepp seemed slightly uneasy about the fact that Qatar won? I got the impression that he was overjoyed for Russia but worried about Qatar because of the CLEAR evidence that it provides for corruption within FIFA.

We can all be proud of the FFA and the work they have done, obviously Frank Lowy was the driving force, but Ben Buckley and friends put together an incredible bid, and I think he especially deserves some credit after all the crap that A-League supporters have given him. Did it take some focus off the A-league? Of course it did, but the potential benefits far outweighed the potential costs.

A little part of me has died with the Qatar decision... I knew FIFA wa corupt but to allow yourself to be bribed about the WC location ... I guess no one like Qatar ever put up their hand before..

Like play in a sand pit
Hot as f**k
No experience at running anything before
no stadiums
no football history
small country

I watched it live and their was aside from Qatar almost complete slience in the room....

Will find it hard to ever defend FIFA agian...

The rumor Qatar for a long time now is Qatar brought the Afercian vote, and traded that with Asia to Spain to get Russia in get there voters in return ...

Poms knocked oput in round one and us also ... what a f**king joke...

I've been depressed all day. To sit up half the night waiting and then to hear the best part of an hour before the announcement that Middle Eastern and British news agencies were already reporting the (correct) winners severely damages any credibility FIFA had.

If we had lost to any of the other bidders but I wouldn't be as half as bitter as I am now. To award Qatar is a disaster for football worldwide and it's hard to imagine it even being a moderately successful WC. As far as I'm concerned FIFA owe the world an explanation as to how and why the EXCO voted this way. Their untouchable arrogance is a disgrace and they should be made accountable.

Their mottos of fair play and for the good of the game are nothing but a joke. Neither applied to the 2022 decision. Absolutely disgusting. Now the British journos really have a story to go after and I hope a broom is put through FIFA. Every dog has it's day.

You would have to say that bin Hamman is a master politician and must be laughing at all the other bidders.

Qatar should simply have been ruled ineligible. I was thinking about the Japanese and US bids in particular just thinking how awesome it would be to go to either. But f**king Doha in June? No thanks.

Japan should cut a deal with all nations, other than Qatar, and install 3D holograms at our stadiums so we can watch all the games "live" without going there and dying.

Agree, agree, agree.

TBH, I didn't bother staying up for the announcement. With FIFA kings of sleaze and corruption, Sepp and cronies at the helm would make sure oil and money would win. And they did. Feel very disappointed for Frank and the Aussie bid team. They had a good one. In the end it seemed all a bit pointless. My ESP tells me that Qatar will be a crock.

Don't be surprised if a break way group is formed by UEFA and America (both North & South) along with a new Asian association essentially the existing Asian group without the middle east nations...

As someone posted earlier ... "The Day Football Died"

From the lack of(FFA) support the A League appeared to receive while they bid was in place it's failure now opens the opportunity to wholly promote the League in a way the other codes will wish FFA were still distracted.

Yeah I watched that.

I don't blame the FFA at all and Frank Lowy should be hailed for his incredible efforts on Australia's behalf.
Yes the presentation could have been better I think - but it was irrelevant.

So many reasons why this is so wrong on a football and event level - but add in the human rights level and words just fail me.

I'd call it a disgrace. But that falls well short.

Very sad affair. That has, and I can't believe it, actually managed to soil and lessen my views of the amazing event that is the world cup. f**k you so very much FIFA.
