Fine that Football Australia's Referees Department has reviewed the two contentious decisions last night but what follow on action takes place-is Evans suspended, stood down or relegated to reffing lower football grades?

Surely there has to be some action taken otherwise the A League which purports to be the flagship of club football in this country becomes a travesty and this calls into question the honesty and competence of our match officials.I may be too trusting but having watched local football since the nineteen sixties and played in games with refs of varying quality and competence I have found in the vast majority of cases they have tried to do a honest job. Therefore the actions of Evans hopefully were honest errors but do show a level of incompetence and poor judgment which should lead to him being banished from the ranks of A League referees for this season and he should undergo a retraining program.

I'm happy with that as a response within 24 hours. Doesn't undo the result but that was never going to happen anyway. Next step take serious disciplinary action against Evans but there's likely to be a process to follow there that doesn't happen within 24 hours. Can't see him getting a game this weekend but if he does get a gig let him play baby sitter between Rudan & Talay or Corica & Kisnorbo, its the least he deserves.

"Though Magill said it was too soon to say if Evans would be dropped from the next round of matches, he pointed out that there are almost twice as many referees as games each week.

“One of the words that we keep using with the referees, everyone needs to be accountable for their decision making,” he said. “Now we’ve got 13 referees and six spots each week, and usually the appointments are reflective of performance.”

Based on that comment from the Ref boss, we shouldn't see Evans anytime soon.... but we all know we will again shortly, most likely in the middle of another game of ours.

Yeah cool they admitted it was wrong decisions by Shaun evans…. In reality does it help anything? I’ve thought all day about how satisfying it’d be if he never reffed another pro game. But it won’t matter, he’s only part of the problem. The pro level ref’s in this country need a complete overhaul from top to bottom. We need the people running VAR to be gone. And people brought in that run it correctly.
What’s stopping the APL bringing someone from the EPL or bundesliga to categorically change the refereeing standard in this country at a pro level. Every single match there is 2-3 extremely dodgy calls and every few games there is a game altering decision. Last night we hit the jackpot.

Evans should not be seen again at least for this season anything less makes the whole thing a joke.
Get rid of the cards to Monty and Van Stratton and replace them with a wrist slap.
Next as Michael says we need to take the steps to having professional referees.
Then we need to get rid of VAR totally.
If they wish to reintroduce VAR in the future it needs to be done with better and more cameras, quick decisions. and no tv on the sidelines and only used for glaring and obvious errors, not measuring offsides down to the nearest centimetre.
Make the refs and assistants make the calls and live with the bad ones that are borderline.
Stop destroying the game.

They then may restore a little of the massive amount of faith they have lost.

Leckie injured Miller therefore he should be suspended for the next game as his challenge would have been his second yellow.

Shaun Evans IS a fulltime/professional referee

Firstly, we all need to acknowledge that refereeing is controlled and administered by the FA, which probably goes some way to explaining why it remains something of a clusterf*ck despite the APL taking over operation of the A Leagues.

After the Adelaide debacle, the OSC wrote a long and reasoned letter to FFA (as it was then) to raise a number of fan concerns regarding the officiating of that game and to seek responses to them. The letter was addressed to James Johnson FFA CEO), Greg O’Rourke (head of A League), Streb Delovski (head of A League referees) and Ben Williams (head of Professional Football Referees Association Australia). That no response was ever received (even a curt a acknowledgement) despite two follow ups (which we know were received) showed how little FFA cared for fan sentiment and concerns.

The suspicion that there are no real consequences to poor refereeing performance by so-called professional or elite officials, was seemingly confirmed when those involved in Adelaide (Fielding and Ams) both continued to officiate not only that same weekend but subsequently and no statement was ever issued by FFA to my recollection.

Last night’s game simply has to become a watershed moment for refereeing in a professional league, or the cycle of bias and incompetence (or worse) will simply be perpetuated. Professional and/or elite referees appear to require more training to improve their performance and they certainly need to be placed under appropriate scrutiny for their performances each and every game. This way, skill sets should hopefully be improved and critiquing of performance should also prevent gross errors from repeating.

Having said all that, I hope that Shaun Evans’ next shit is a porcupine and he falls back on it.

Id just love to know how often has a ref over ruled VAR twice in one game.I honestly can't think of once that it's happened. Let alone how the on field ref interpretation is so wrong when being guided by a bloke in a box with the rulebook infront of him.
