Twenty Hyundai A-League players have been included in Pim Verbeeks extended Qantas Socceroos squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Qatar in 14 days time.

The Newcastle Jets have provided the majority of these players with seven making the final preparation camp that starts on January 28. Jets 18-year-old sensation James Holland is the bolter, surviving the cull from the Hyundai A-League players that had been at the three training camps with coach Pim Verbeek during January.

Overall, Verbeek named 39 players in the provisional squad, with the final list of 18 players to be decided on Monday (February 4) prior to the match against Qatar on Wednesday February 6 at Melbournes Telstra Dome (kick-off is at 7.30pm).

Holland is also one of eight Qantas Under 23 players to be named, with Newcastle Uniteds James Troisi the only non-Australian Under 23 to be invited into the squad.

Every Australian Hyundai A-League club is represented in the squad, which also includes for the first time a set of twins, with the inclusion of Jets pair Joel and Adam Griffiths.

I have been very pleased with the way the local players have responded to what were trying to do in the recent training camps we have held, Verbeek said.

I want to give them every opportunity to state their claim to be part of the final 18 man squad which must be named on match day.

Football is a team game and it will take a team effort from many players over the next two years for us to make it, and this is the beginning of a long and challenging journey which promises a feast of football for fans, Verbeek said.

The 20 players, plus Troisi and Wisla Krakow pair Jacob Burns and Michael Thwaite will go into camp down in Melbourne from Monday 28 January and will stay there for the full week, until confirmation of the overseas players that will be returning for the match.

In the meantime, Verbeek has challenged these the local players to earn a place in the final 18-man squad, with some strong performances in Melbourne over next week.

Hyundai A-League squad members are:
Adelaide United Bruce Djite, Travis Dodd
Central Coast Mariners John Aloisi, Tom Pondeljak, Danny Vukovic
Melbourne Victory Kevin Muscat, Archie Thompson, Rodrigo Vargas
Newcastle Jets Mark Bridge, Ante Covic, Adam Griffiths, Joel Griffiths, James Holland, Stuart Musialik, Jade North
Perth Glory Simon Colosimo*, Nikolai Topor-Stanley
Queensland Roar Craig Moore
Sydney FC Alex Brosque, Mark Milligan
* is out of contract

Overseas Players are: Michael Beauchamp (Nurnberg, Germany), Mark Bresciano (Palermo, Italy), Jacob Burns (Wisla Krakow, Poland), , Tim Cahill (Everton, England), Nick Carle (Bristol City, England), Jason Culina (PSV Eindhoven, Netherlands), Brett Emerton (Blackburn Rovers, England), Vince Grella (Torino, Italy), Brett Holman (NEC Nijmegen, Netherlands), Josh Kennedy (Karlsruhe, Germany), Harry Kewell (Liverpool, England), Scott McDonald (Celtic, Scotland), Lucas Neill (West Ham United, England), Mark Schwarzer (Middlesbrough, England), Michael Thwaite (Wisla Krakow, Poland), James Troisi (Newcastle United, England), Carl Valeri (Grosseto, Italy), Luke Wilkshire (FC Twente, Netherlands)

The Qantas Socceroos play Qatar on Wednesday 6 February 2008 at the Telstra Dome in Melbourne with the match commencing at 7.30pm.
