VIC wrap: Northcote, Port Melbourne secure maiden Round of 32 spots

Victorian clubs Northcote City and Port Melbourne Sharks are set to compete in the FFA Cup Round of 32 for the first time.

Northcote scored two late goals to down Altona Magic on Wednesday night at Paisley Park.

Danny Dixon scored both goals for Northcote in the 2-0 win.

Meanwhile, Port Melbourne was able to get past Moreland Zebras with a thrilling 4-3 win at JL Murphy Reserve.

Moreland looked set to seal a 2-1 win, but Port Melbourne scored a 96th minute equaliser to send the game into extra time.

Moreland went ahead again early in the added 30 minutes, but Port managed to find an equaliser before scoring the winner in the 111st minute.

Both sides will be making their Round of 32 debut in 2018, with the potential of hosting a Hyundai A-League side.

The draw for the Round of 32 takes place on Tuesday, 26 June and will be broadcast LIVE on FOX SPORTS.

Confirmed: semi-final draw complete in the ACT

We’re down to the last four in the FFA Cup in Canberra, with the draw for the preliminary round semi-finals held at Deakin Stadium on Friday.

Woden-Weston were the final side to confirm their spot in the last four after an entertaining 4-2 win over the Monaro Panthers on Thursday night.

And Woden-Weston were drawn against Gungahlin United, 6-0 winners themselves in the previous round, in one of the semi-final match-ups.

The other one sees Capital Football league-leaders Canberra FC up against Belconnen United.

The two sides met just a couple of weeks ago in the league, with Canberra FC running out convincing 5-0 winners.

But this is Cup football, with the winner to move just 90 minutes away from the Round of 32.

Dates, times and venues for all matches will be confirmed in coming days.

Capital Football FFA Cup Semi-Final

  • Canberra FC v Belconnen United
  • Gungahlin United v Woden-Weston

WA Wrap: Two clubs book passage to FFA Cup Round of 32
Gwelup Croatia and Armadale will be Western Australia’s FFA Cup representatives after securing passage to the national round draw following preliminary round victories on Monday night.

Current first division leaders Gwelup booked their ticket to the Round of 32 with a 4-1 hammering of Floreat Athena, claiming their third NPL WA scalp en route to the national stage.

Benjamin Kouakou was the hero for Gwelup after clinching two sublime free-kicks with Victor Brauner and David Heagney completing the rout at Croatian Sporting Complex.

“We’ve worked very hard to get to this stage,” Kouakou told Football West.

“I’m very proud of my teammates and very proud of the supporters.”

GWEllll.jpg

Gwelup will be joined in the round of 32 by Armadale who defeated ECU Joondalup in a 3-2 thriller at Alfred Skeet Reserve.

The eighth-placed NPL WA outfit entered the half time interval level after Billy Quincroft’s opener was cancelled out by Gordon Smith’s leveller.

But the John O’Reilly coached side struck twice after half time through skipper Nathan Costello and NPL WA golden boot leader Chris Jackson to put themselves in touching distance of a first ever State Cup final.

Smith secured his brace with one minute of normal time remaining to ensure a nervy finale, but Armadale held on to extend their FFA Cup run.

As a result, Armadale will take on Gwelup Croatia in the Belt up. State Cup final at Dorrien Gardens on July 14.

Armadale stalwart O’Reilly told Football West he couldn’t be prouder of his charges after making history for the NPL WA club.

“I’m probably the proudest man in the world at the moment, the players put in a great performance tonight and I thought we deserved the win,” he said.

“The win really hasn’t sunk in yet, but putting us on that national stage, I’m absolutely delighted for the president Ken (Madeley) and everyone involved in this football club.”

ACT Wrap: Danning helps Canberra FC into decider

Canberra FC are through to an all-or-nothing play-off for a spot in the FFA Cup Round of 32 after overpowering Belconnen United 3-0 on Thursday night.

Former Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar forward Kofi Danning set the hosts on their way in just the fourth minute and Thomas James struck twice after half-time to put the club on the precipice of a first appearance in the Final Rounds.

To achieve that dream, the NPL Capital Football leaders must now beat mid-table Gungahlin United.
Gungahlin, who reached the Round of 32 in 2015, edged out Woden-Weston in a 4-3 epic on Tuesday night.

Josh Gaspari scored a 112th-minute winner to send his side through to the last stage of the Preliminary Rounds.

It was a far more straightforward assignment for Canberra 48 hours later.

James netted in the 59th and 93rd minutes to confirm what had appeared likely after Danning tapped home at close-range in the opening exchanges.

FFA Cup wrap: Two QLD clubs through to Round of 32
There was a host of FFA Cup fixtures on Saturday with two Queensland sides booking their ticket to the Round of 32, while the 'final four' in Northern NSW has been decided after an enthralling day of preliminary round action.

QUEENSLAND

Lions FC and Cairns FC booked their ticket to the national round draw after emerging victorious in Saturday evening’s FFA Cup preliminary round fixtures in Queensland.

It was the far-north Queenslanders who stole the headlines thanks to a stunning comeback win over Magpies Crusaders United at Barlow Park.

Cairns FC found themselves down 3-0 at half time thanks to goals from United's Michael Lyall, Lewis Farquhar and Kyle Markham.

But a sensational turnaround in the second stanza saw Joshua Taylor register a brace, while efforts from Johnson Slotemaker, Chris O’Hare and Harrison Corica secured Cairns’ passage through to the national round draw.

Meanwhile, National Premier Leagues’ Queensland outfit Lions FC powered their way through to the Round of 32 with a dominant 6-0 win over an in-form Peninsula Power side at Lions Stadium.

A Shaun Carlos hattrick led the way for Lions who completed the rout through Jheison Macuace’s double and a strike from Mitchell Hore.

Second-tier side Peninsula Power had come into the encounter on the back of an 18-match unbeaten run and had previously knocked off 2017 NPL QLD Premiers Brisbane Strikers 3-0 in the previous round, but were no match for Lions on the night.

Brisbane City take on Olympic FC tonight at 4pm while Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast Knights are also in action at 4.30pm in the two remaining preliminary round fixtures.
NORTHERN NSW

The final four in the National Premier League’s NNSW FFA Cup draw has been decided after a thrilling day of preliminary round action at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility on Saturday.

Hamilton Olympic, Broadmeadow Magic, Lambton Jaffas and Charlestown City Blues all registered wins and are now only one win away from entering the FFA Cup national round draw.

Hamilton Olympic were first to book their play-off spot after defeating Edgeworth Eagles 3-2 in the morning. Olympic’s Jacob Bailey provided the match winning strike ten minutes from full time to ensure Edgeworth miss the Round of 32 for the first time in four years.
Olympic will meet Broadmeadow Magic in a local derby after Kale Bradbury’s brace eased Magic past Adamstown Rosebud. Luke Virgili added a third in the second half for Magic, who enter Round 7 for the fourth time. A date and venue for that clash has yet to be confirmed.

In the third match of the day, Lambton Jaffas were far too good for Football Mid North Coast (FMNC) outfit Port United and ran out 8-0 victors. Lambton’s Ben Hay sent the side on their way with an opening half brace before Bren Hammel and Tom Waller added third and fourth goals before the break. The Jaffas piled on another four in the second stanza with Hammel clinching a double, while Nathan Verity, Finn Pariss and Marcus Duncan all got on the scoresheet.

Lambton are set to take on Charlestown City Blues in the second and final play-off fixture after the Blues hit Boambee Bombers for six to round off the day’s play. Charlestown’s 6-0 triumph over the FMNC side saw Scott Smith claim a hattrick to give the team their first chance of cracking the national stage.

Charlestown will host Lambton at Lisle Carr Oval on Wednesday, 13th of June, 7pm.

FFA Cup wrap: Round of 32 spots tied up across QLD, SA and TAS
There are just four spots to be decided in the FFA Cup Round of 32 after clubs from Queensland, South Australia, and Tasmania booked their spots in a bumper long weekend of football.

QUEENSLAND

With two spots tied up by Cairns FC and Lions FC on Saturday night, all eyes turned to the two remaining spots on Sunday night – and there was a fair share of excitement there too.

Olympic FC was the final side to clinch their Round of 32 spot, and they certainly didn’t do it the easy way.

They lead 2-0 with minutes to go in before conceding two goals to Brisbane City and sending the match to extra time, then penalties.

It was a close run thing, but a 4-1 win in the shootout secured passage.

Gold Coast Knights are through to the Round of 32 for the first time in their short history.

They lead 1-0 going into the final minutes of their clash with Sunshine Coast Fire, but conceded in the 93rdminute and went to extra time.

The Knights then conceded again with 15 minutes to play to go down 2-1 – but incredibly goals in the 119thand 122nd minute saw them come from behind to win.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA

A tough cup run which seen Adelaide Comets face West Adelaide SC, Adelaide City FC and Cumberland United FC ended in a smile as they edged out Croydon Kings 2-1 on Monday.

The win books the Comets spot in the Round of 32 for the first time, with goals from Terence Carter and Andreas Wiens doing the damage.
TASMANIA

It was tight, but Devonport did just enough to edge out South Hobart 1-0 and secure their passage through to the Round of 32 for just the second time.

The Monday afternoon encounter was decided in the first half, a Miles Barnard goal doing enough to edge out a South side just two points behind in the NPL Tasmania.

It wasn’t just the solitary Tasmania spot in the FFA Cup Round of 32 which Devonport claimed, but the Lakoseljac Cup too.

NNSW Wrap: Two clubs secure spots in Round of 32
Broadmeadow Magic are back again while they’ll be joined by newcomer Charlestown City Blues as representatives from Northern NSW in the FFA Cup Round of 32.

The Blues booked their spot following a dramatic penalty shootout win over Lambton Jaffas at Lisle Carr Oval.

In a tense and hard-fought encounter, neither side was able to find a breakthrough over 120 minutes.

That’s when Blues keeper Danny Ireland came up big, pulling off three stunning saves in the shootout to help his side advance 3-2 on penalties.

Meanwhile, the Magic left it late to secure their spot back in the last 32, overcoming Hamilton Olympic 2-1 at Adamstown Oval.

Former Hyundai A-League player Mitchell Oxborrow gave Magic the lead just before half-time, curling in a superb free-kick from the edge of the box.

But Olympic drew level in first-half stoppage time as Jed Hornery turned in Tom Davies’ cross.

Just when it looked like extra-time would be needed, John Majurovski latched onto a brilliant cross and headed the ball into the back of the net with eight minutes left.

Ruben Zadkovich’s side were able to hold on for a gritty win to qualify for the Round of 32 for the fourth time in the club’s history.

Both the Blues and Magic will go into the draw for the Round of 32 which will take place on June 26 LIVE on FOX SPORTS.

Canberra FC through to Round of 32
Canberra FC has locked down their spot in the FFA Cup Round of 32.

In what was also the Federation Cup final, two goals in the first half was enough to secure Canberra FC a 3-2 win over Gungahlin United on Saturday night.

There's just one spot left to play for now, and it's in the Northern Territory. Hellenic Athletic Club will face Verdi Football Club on June 23 to fight it out for the final spot in the Round of 32.

READ: Two Northern NSW clubs secure Round of 32 passage

Gungahlin United opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a scrappy goal which fell nicely to Michael Rinaudo from a free kick.

Canberra FC levelled things up just four minutes later through Matt Grbesa, and former Brisbane Roar man Kofi Danning put Canberra ahead on the stroke of half-time.

Danning would pop up again in the 90th minute with a strong finish high into the back of the net to put Canberra two goals ahead with just injury time to play.
A tricky cross in from Gungahlin goal scorer Rinaudo went in via a heavy deflection from Canberra FC defender Daniel Subasic and made the score 3-2 late on.

Gungahlin wasn’t able to score another to level things up in injury time, and Canberra FC celebrated their passage through to the Round of 32.

It is the first time in Canberra FC history that the club has qualified for the Round of 32, and means there will be eleven clubs in the 2018 FFA Cup making their debut on the national stage.

The draw for the Round of 32 will take place on June 26, LIVE on FOX SPORTS.

Hellenic Athletic Club are the final team to book their spot in the 2018 FFA Cup Round of 32 after a crushing win over Verdi FC in the Northern Territory decider on Saturday night.

In a one-sided Top End decider at Darwin Football Stadium, Hellenic were too classy for the team from Alice Springs, cruising to a 9-0 win.

Hellenic scored five goals in the first-half and there was little let-up after the break as they booked their spot on the national stage for the first time in their history.
Helio Carvalho, who is 48-years-old, was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick in the rout.

Carvalho has scored seven goals in the prelim rounds to help get his side into the main draw.

There was also two own goals scored on the right, with Robert Kilmartin (2), Sulav Maskey and John Trikilis also getting in on the act.

Hellenic now go into the draw, which will be held LIVE on Fox Sports on Tuesday, June 26 at 7.30pm.
