ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I don't think the club has connected with the community like the early days. Lawrie was a huge part of that and getting the word out.

The numbers and interest are down across the board, though.
Don't underestimate the complete lack of any mainstream awareness of games.
The P+ deal is a disaster from an awareness or promotional point of view.
Chucking out 27 Facebook posts is not promoting the games. It's an echo chamber

The best marketing piece the club has doesn’t even cost them money.

On the way down Kariong Hill there is a portable electric sign (Council or Roads?) advising motorists of traffic changes during a particular game. It normally starts showing information a week before that gane.

Thousands must see this every day.

There is also a permanent electronic sign on Tuggerah strait that advises the same.

The early days the management as a whole were very building a fan base focused ... Peter, Gorman & Lawrie ...

Lawrie was the spear head, but Gorman was often on the radio and in the media generally.... so too Peter...

The world was also different then.... being on the back page of the Advocate and having interviews on 2GO, being on local or Newcastle NBN, had far bigger impacts than today....

Like who todays reads the advocate, watches FTA TV and outside car trips listens to local radio ...

Lawrie sent the players to local club training nights, with every player allocated a club, that was very smart as connecting today to the broader public is harder than its ever been and connecting to the over 12 under 25 age group, has its own set of challenges...

Could be an interesting topic on Thursday night...

Good points. We don't get the advocate, watch streaming stuff mainly, and listen to spotify.

Pretty sure they still do the local club ambassador thing right?
They do but it's what turning up to a rego day for a bit? I dont recall any special Mariners run training nights or similar. My club does a night where they get most of the juniors in together and run them through a bunch of activities. It's done by the grade teams and the kids have a good time. No reason the mariners couldnt be doing that or running some school clinics.

Don’t they do those school holiday clinics.

Not the same thing though. Clinics afaik are primarily another income stream with some community outreach built in. There's no exposure if you aren't already aware and keen enough to part with $60 per day or whatever it is. I'm talking about getting into public schools and doing clinics for free. My oldest has had basketball and nrl clinics visit his school, CCM hasn't been in there in at least 3 years. Covid was a disruption but those other clinics got up and going when they could.

I swear the reason so many people my age are Sydney Kings fans is because they came to their school as a kid

Its very very very interesting ... with the variety of choices especially E-Games, and that the under 40 folk watch almost no FTA TV and hardly any FTA radio ... and as for newspapers most have never brought one...

How do you market and create community awareness....

Recently and I plan to bring this up on Thursday night time permitting... but in the US the MLS with a crap media deal, and crap broadcasting schedule, heaps of negative media.... and in Football only the third watched competition, Lega MX [Mexican}, EPL, then MLS in the states.... last year their revenue was 1.85 billion with media income of 65 million.... essentially they after approaching bankruptcy adopted a fan focused decision making model ..... every decision was made with the idea of growing the fan base and not loosing fans...

Time permitting if anyone wants to watch how to build fan engagement .... three vids combined Vid 1 = 1.45 min, vid 2 = 0.30, vid 3 = 12.00 so roughly 14 minutes...

Vid 1, fan engagement allowed and partly funded by clubs... Vid 2 We Ready chant for Atlanta, Vid 3 The Movement re Atlanta being marketed too... BTW The Movement series had over 50 vids made...

Best TIFOS of 2017 - YouTube

We Ready - Atlanta United - YouTube

Are the players allowed to visits primary schools?

Do some juggling or shooting net in front of school assembly and put a flyer in every students bag with a big $29 for the whole family promotion (Eg).
Can't see why not. They'd just need a working with children check which they should have anyway seeing as though there are children as ballboys/girls

Unfortunately Mariners have never taken school promotion seriously. Few if any visits organised. Club comment to me when trying to set up visits was that the players didn't like doing them.??? Aren't they on contracts where the clubs tells them what to do? Players would rather sit at Terrigal having a coffee than promote upcoming games.
I asked the question on here, was there any school visits planned in Nov during the 4 week WC break. Crickets.
Captive audience with over 80 primary schools on the coast. Don't know any schools that would knock back the offer of players visiting to promote upcoming games.
As mentioned AFL and NRL teams from Sydney have made more visits to schools than our local A league team.

Seems like the best way to reach prime target and over 300/700 children per visit.

Children have to bring their parents to the game and bobs your uncle, got some food sales as well as a 50% chance of a continued regular or casual fan!

That would be my priority.

Maybe get the youth team to do the school visits for those over players over 18 to show the young primary school kids not only that they should join a football (soccer) team but come watch the Mariners and you might see me on the pitch very soon as the Mariners give young kids like us a chance!

Seems crazy. Cricket NSW has been trying to get their little 4 week in school program into every single school on the coast over the last couple of years.
The players may not like doing them but imo that’s part of the deal of signing a professional contract. Every other code does schools, hospitals, charities etc.
We have a couple of race days a year?

I thought Rich mentioned they’d be in the community a lot more but as yet I haven’t seen it. They used to be at rebel sometimes too. Speaking of, did a supplier issue mean that no retail stores actually stock the home kits/merch anymore? We’re invisible

Very frustrating when they stock WSW, SFC, Jets.....but not us. When I complain at the shop they just think I'm a crazy old man.
