ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

From what I understand, the cap is expected to be $2.5m, 2 Marquees, plus the 2 positions mentioned above. I imagine loyalty exemptions and development bonuses will remain.
It appears to me to be a continuation of "the cap you have when you are not having a cap" with a couple of added bonuses for the very rich.

I think they’re struggling with the idea of how to abolish the cap without inflating average player wages - ie pay more with little improvement in standard.

anyway today would be a good day to trickle out some signing news and help with those weekend wounds.

Yeah, one would hope our club has already been working on signings - some other teams have started to announce theirs. We definitely still have some positions to fill, and that's even before we start losing players.
It's critical that we have a decent season next year. Anything less than finals is unacceptable. We can't go backwards (3rd to 6th I don't mind, but 3rd to 8th is a crash back)

If it is true I imagine it is a plan to get clubs who are able to spend some money on real stars rather than just inflating the wages of average players. Whatever, unless there is some corresponding compensation for the poorer clubs, like in the MLS, the rich will get richer.

I find it a bit scary that the American system would be more socialist in style compared to a more laissez-fair system with which we could end up.

Most professional sporting organisations introduce systems to force all teams towards the mean, thus evening the competition somewhat. In a draft system the bottom team gets first pick, a salary cap is meant to introduce a range of player spends in which smaller clubs can achieve a minimum yet richer clubs can spend more within reason.

What we have is a Clayton's cap where the richer clubs can spend what they like in addition to the limit on two marquees and in future up to a reported $1.2m on two extra stars. When you bring in loyalty deductions in the cap which mostly favour the richer clubs who can then pay their better players more thus ensuring loyalty (eg Ryan Grant) you end up with a very uneven playing field.

If what is rumoured eventuates I can see a 4 team competition with another 10 teams making up the numbers and surviving only by selling their up and coming youth to the top teams.

Maybe I will be proven wrong but I suspect it will be the rich and powerful who will call the shots and they will look after themselves first.

Janota hasn’t been given a run of games to prove anything and if his training level has dropped off then that a lot of the time is a sign the player has cracked it for feeling like his manager never trusted him, happens even in grass roots. It’s a crying shame. And has turned out to be a waste of vital visa money. And let’s not get started on the Serbian lad.
Whilst I do like Urena a lot, I see SO many holes in his game. Yes he will provide one maybe two big passes for a clear chance maybe. But how many times does he so softly give away the ball? Look super unsure of his own touch and just plain loose in controlling the ball, stray passes when they’re simple, under hit passes, needless flick ons. I find myself more often frustrated than wowed by him. He should be in double figures for goals in all honesty. Imo he’s slightly over hyped by the commentators each game, they basically put him at the ninkovic/diamanti level and he’s just not that. Yeah he is good but he could be more influential when our attack is getting stale like it has been ALOT recently. He should be the X factor since we don’t have that coming from a goal scoring midfielder (which Janota could’ve been given a genuine chance)
janota wasn't given a go .he has quality and was squandered . it cost us dearly.
he has a pass that is top shelf .

urena isn't far off and was better than ninkovic in his first year.
urena needs guys giving him movement and opinions . this rarely happened .
he is the most important player we need to keep .

im more concern at who we'll lose and second season syndrome from the kids .

this season will be meaningless unless we maintain a finals appearance

Seems Mcarthur have signed Craig Noone... let's hope the rumors of them poaching DDS are not true....

Hmmmm, I seem to remember a breaking story about DDS joining them in the week leading up to our EF against them. Am I sensing a theme here?
