Should Staj be Given a 5 Year Contract? ....and the Keys to Gosford.

Staj has proved himself to be a superb Coach and has taken us from the basement to the Penthouse. I feel this man should be given a 5 year contract so he can move his family here and put his kids in Grammer or Adventist and buy a waterfront at Point Frederick or Terrigal.
He gets the Security and we get the chance to build a Fergie style empire.
He has been outcoached once or twice this year and is a rookie for the AL but overall he is clearly the Coach of The Year and he will only get better.

What are your thoughts?

If he'll take it, it's a no brainer and would be a huge win for us. Maybe an ability to accept a foreign offer if he had other ambitions or something... just love to see some stability for our future that we could keep building on — like what seems to be happening in our academy.

Fully agree. However, it will require MC to be willing or able to open his wallet some more each season or to sell the Club and move on. If not next season will be rinse and repeat and the same for the next 5 years.
I cannot believe that any coach will buy into the levels of frustration, it would be too much like Sisyphus and his rock.
We have a wonderfull crop of youth players coming on and playing above themselves but they are not enough to perform with a ruthless consistency that you need to win silverware. They should be the icing on the cake not the main engine.
I hope we can keep him for the next 5 years, he has proved he is the coach we have been looking for, but he must be given the tools he will require to build the future.
It should not be too difficult and require an SFC spend. We were only a couple of top quality players short of being there this year.

Unless we get a new owner I expect he'll be gone next season and the team gutted to fund another shoestring campaign.

You're dreaming if you think anything we've done this year will change MC's attitude.

Love to see Staj here longer but i think if he stays just one more year that would be a huge bonus.

He does have another year on his contract doesn’t he?

Contracts mean very little thse days unfortunately. Agree Wombat and makes total sense however we unfortunately don’t support a club that often follows common sense. Was great to see the support for the club last night. Not one signing announcement is a real worry.

We've made 2 overseas signings. This is what MC wants to see. i.e. this year with Staj is infinitely better than the previous 5 seasons in the way he measures it.

Pretty sure he does

Players have 1/2/3 years left on their contract and get bought out.

Even more reason we might take the extra money and take our chances.

I hope this won’t happen, we have near the strongest dressing room and need to keep that for more than 1 season.
Although I don’t like Staj tactically as a coach at the end of the day keeping the players happy and working together is as important if not more important.

I think he will grow tired of us unfortunately. We simply don’t have the money to buy the players he needs and other clubs are changing managers and i am sure he would love the budget and skill some of those teams contain.

Would be interesting to see if some of his short comings as a coach this year where down to personnel or he made mistakes (probably both).

We could really use some stability for recruitment purposes as well as for the club and fans.

I think we will be lucky to hold on to him over this offseason but I won’t be surprised to see him leave at the end of his contract.

As for the commute. That takes a toll on you

Actually it was 3. Not surprised you forgot the 3rd, not sure we even played him. That was money down the toilet.

Is jankovic on a 2 yr deal as well? Be a shame to waste a visa spot 2 years running. Edit..transfermarkt has him with us another year.

While Staj has been awesome for us this year, to see him leave early without completing his contract would be quite poor. Let’s not forget that we signed him at a very tough spot in his career (rightly or wrongly) and while he’s arguably more than repaid CCM this season there has to be an understanding that the club provided the platform for his success (and the faith when last year, bar the post covid period, was anything but successful). That said, he seems like a stand-up guy so I doubt he leaves early unless there is an ownership change or MC expands his “retail offering” to coaches as well…

Jankovic was a contra youth deal. More about building inter club relationships than a true 1st grade visa player.

Someone else would know the exact details but a couple of our youth players went to one of the Balkan clubs a couple of years ago. If I remember correctly one was a gun while the other was sent for experience.
I think Anton arranged it all. Sorry that is all I can recollect. I am sure someone else here will provide the full correct story.

This sort of stuff is really great PR... rather than have people think we wasted a visa spot it's really a good news story about giving a young foreign player an opportunity to experience Australia and our league. I would imagine our family oriented community would love this kind of story.....

Great idea but sadly though isn't that up to Charlesworth?
