You don't leave your last sub till extra time if your trying to win.
Key point is that Staj wasn't trying to win in the final minutes.

He signalled to birraz to slow down the last goal kick, and was waving players back when we counter attacked shortly before that.

The Bouman sub was purely a "run the clock down" option.

He was clearly more keen to hang on to the point than chase an extra 2.

I think all our defenders where to blame for Ninko’s goal, they were all shocked and why wouldn’t one of the more experienced players be calling out to cover him. Ninko is quality and he scores that goal against any team. Hall did some good blocks and tackles and I thought his distribution was better than Ruon TBH.
They were pressing Hall allnight when he had ball underfoot, he dealt with well, well trained, good reflexes, wasn't afraid to move the ball in to forward positions, Made 1 second seem like 3, alot of promise.

I really don't think we missed him that much. Hall was solid AF, and Miller was decent when he came on.
I love Ruon but don't think his presence would've made too much difference tonight
I think we would have won if he played. But Hall had a good starting debut.

BTW....shout out to the Ref. That was a very good performance for a change.

Was Hall subbed from Cramping, or injury?
Looked like cramp, which leads back to a point I made in the WU game thread, in that Staj could have given Hall the last 30 mins of that game after RT was rubbed out for last night’s game and could also have been marched by that arsehat Faghani

. he looked to be trying to stretch out a cramp ... no surprise considering he wouldn't have played much football + the step up
I think just a cramp, he was icing it when he came off which is pretty standard for bad cramps.

Agree with Wombat the officials were pretty good, seems we have some credibility back.

Hall was very impressive. Was strong in defense and composed with the ball.
Sydney have been scoring that 1st goal for years and it’s a very cleaver play but what a killer right on halftime.

It was so obvious the guys were tired abd needed fresh legs but there are certain sides Staj seems reluctant to go to the bench for.

He was conservative last night and we drew because of it.

I know he likes Simon to win the headers in defense and was keeping him on probably for that but he was knackered.

Nizz DDS Stens Olli is our best midfield but when they are tired there is no substitute capable of taking over as Casella is not that type of mid and Bouhman is way to attack minded and Janota is not well liked by Staj but we needed him tonight but we also didn’t have the subs slot available because of Hall and Koul subs and Staj likes to go later to kill time or attack. He should have gone earlier with a sub but hindsight is a bitch because Kye’s pass was how they were going to score because we defended well and why did it have to be TCT

Thought he must have kicked the ground or something.
Rowles' pass to set up SFC had more pace on it than Nizzy's shot.

DDS' blew a few chances too, sending it straight to the keeper.

Both teams wasted a lot of chances. Could've easily been a 5-5 draw with the chances.

Is a “cleaver play” when you slice through the defence (cutting stuff) (apologies in advance)...

Hall looked calm and not out of place. His distribution was sound and apart from being caught out by Ninkovic( as most defenders in the comp have been) he had a good game.Miller also played well in his cameo -definitely a CB,not a RB.

I concur with all the comments about Dan. Very impressive debut and deserves more minutes going forward. As discussed after the game with a couple of forum members FFC and Rowdy (who hasn't been around here in a while but you know who he is) a Ruon-Hall CB partnership would be interesting to see. I think that'd be extremely solid as we've now gone more than a few games without a clean sheet.

I know there are restrictions on how many we can add to the squad, but I was surprised Hall wasn't given a run in the NPL last Sunday (given we knew by then that Ruon was out) to sharpen him up and get a bit of match fitness into him.

I think it was always the plan that he wouldn't last and Miller would replace him at some point. But a run last week might have got enough into his legs to last out until time for Kuol and keep a sub slot in reserve

This 1000% I think you've nailed Staj's nature as a coach. He's hyper organised, incredibly disciplined, intelligent, straight shooter and I'd guess no one works harder... but he has looked like he leans to being risk adverse, which is great until it's not. At times any and all things are necessary.

In the games where there was latitude and people wanted to see some minutes for Hall, you have to assume Staj wasn't willing to accept any level of risk however minimal and just wanted to keep Ruon and Kye on to close out the matches.

Interesting point.

Also it’s the back end of the season now so the starting regulars are at a higher tempo

Was evident that both Hall and SFC replacement for Grant both cramped very early in the second half.

Also have to watch the replay but did Hall hurt himself kicking the ball which turned into cramp or was it just cramp that caused the kick. Either fatigue was expected but agree they would have hoped for it to be later

Would’ve been 30000ft in the air on his way back from Launceston with the rest of the squad on the Sunday.
