ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

2020/21 Season

One potential reason to start Simon might be if Gestede is named in the squad for Saturday - Matty is our best chance of keeping him quiet on corners. But if he’s out injured then no need.

Yeah Matt is huge on Corners but your striker can’t be in the team because he defends corners. That’s what Tonyik needs to be.
That been said Matt deserves to start because he has been scoring. Although I don’t think we expected him to be a starting striker all season but he’s doing enough.
The only reason I’d bench him is to change things up even though the midfield has been the problem. Until Stens comes back there isn’t much we can do in the midfield

The City match is the only match so far this season we were not the better side...

AU was simply stolen, Nux was a sucker punch on the break with a player scoring his once in a lifetime goal, Poachers FC was an even game with a deflection.

On paper we have the worst side in the competition, to be where we are is honestly amazing and a huge tick for the coaching staff....

Going back to the season start I think the visa players well the two senior ones anyway where brought in to help develop our younger players as much as to play...

Matty's form up front has made it all but impossible to drop him, hand on heart not the other thing, if you said preseason the season Matty has had to date I would have suggested you better lay off the weed as its affecting you.

Urena I think was brought in to help develop Kuol, Janota I think was to help develop Nizzy & other mids... neither are top draw visa players.... the trick has been the younger players learning from them both at training and on match day...

The other huge turn around has been the backs.... unrecognisable if compared to prior seasons...

To me City in there current form are a level above everyone else... and credit were credit is due they have a smarter than expected coach....

Looking forward to Saturday night, lets hope for a big crowd....

I think there were times against Perth where we lost our way and resorted to bypassing our midfield when under pressure. We’ve been pretty disciplined in trying to play our way out of trouble and been reasonably effective at it. Against City it was way more obvious particularly in the first half. It’s always going to be difficult for strikers when you spend large portions of the game pressing or trying to trying to bring a ball down that’s been lumped to your general area with little midfield support. Maybe a plan B with a slight adjustment of formation for certain games could help but we seem pretty set on 4-4-2

Wanderers to miss out?

Big call.
When I looked at it and made the call I was looking at who people had played and who they are scheduled to play in the currently scheduled games.

MCI has the easiest run, then PG, MAC & WUN.

The next three CCM, SFC and the Nix have an average run.

Then comes ADL, WSW, NUJ, MVC with BNE having worst run.

Wanderers will be there or thereabouts - probably battling it out for the last spot with WUN.

They are better placed than ADL who have 5 wins in the last 5 (3 against the bottom two teams and one given to them by the officials against us). ADL sitting in third does not reflect reality and I think they will drop hard as will BNE with PG and WUN climbing the ladder

I would back WSW to end up in front of ADL, Nix, NUJ, MVC and BNE. That would make them 7th. The question is will WUN climb enough to catch WSW because I'm pretty confident PG will come home with a wet sail and pass them.

The Nix looked bloody awesome against MVC. They are a much better team than their table position suggests in my opinion
They've had some terrible luck and some appalling decisions against them this year. Much better than the table suggests (despite the usual cliche - of course the table lies).

Mind you, they didn't deserve their win against us. Sotirio clearly dragged Nigro off the ball to get a shot and I felt like I was the only one who saw it!!!

This will be interesting and a real balls up, this makes our Visa players crucial and also we need to give some more time to the fringe players like Hall, Hatch, Casella and Smylie so they are better prepared for more game time. I think the Olyroos will impact us the most. City will be majorly screwed.
