Had kuol had control of the ball or even a touch on it then for sure it’s a pen, but because he didn’t touch it, it would have been called as a collision because neither of them touched the ball, and kuol didn’t really look like getting it even if the collision didn’t occur, therefore it’s not a pen,
Disagree. Kuol had a touch and didn’t initiate contact and got cleaned up. Defender played the ball and got nothing.
Overall we deserved nothing but a pen with 10 to go can change games.

City played out very well from the back with solid 1/2 and support play then pierced through the middle with good passes making our 2 lines of 4 very ineffective.

And because they had the ball in front of our centre backs as soon as one of them came forward to shut down created an arrow head for City to pass wide and use masses of space.

That confidence on the ball they had from back to front was by far the best we have seen all season and possibly in any game.
They have immense experience with some good youthful legs as well.

I would say they will beat WSW as well but now it will be tight at the top let’s pray for as many draws as possible while we review all our games and find a way to get better and change against those teams improving.

Should we not have pressed high early tonight?

Let them have the ball and saved more energy, I think they ran us around and we were a bit shaken.

Jonota was really comfortable on the ball and they respected that and dropped off him. Staj got that one wrong tonight which is fine but he will no know he has to trust Janota’s skill to control the midfield

The main thing I took from it we got the mids were well wrong , we weren't ready for the press or didn't counter it, hall should have been blooded weeks ago. After the ball began to show up we were cooked, finally (and probably the least impactful thing) clarrification on challenging a player in the box

So I’m gonna come clean and say something that has been on my mind since the Perth away game in that the boys have started to feel the pressure of being top, with the pack chasing them down.

Tonight we came up against a team that is so full of confidence that we needed to be at our very best to go toe to toe with them, when in truth our performance levels have been slowly dropping for the past 4-5 weeks.

Tonight we couldn’t deal with the pressure, our meaningful movement off the ball was almost non-existent (it did improve a little after Bouman came on) and our intensity was nowhere near the level that it needed to be.

Too many players had poor games against a side where they all needed standout performances. Nigro showed tonight how average he is as a defender and how little he brings in an attacking sense. Clisby reverted to his level of last season and Tongyik had his least effective game for us so far this campaign.

As for our visa players, Urena isn’t the sort of player who can adapt to trench warfare and I’m sorry but nothing I have seen from Janota thus far makes me think he will be bossing games any time soon.

Yes last Sunday’s game was probably still in the boys’ legs and their preparation for tonight’s game must have been badly disrupted by the atrocious weather but despite all that the team simply didn’t show enough ticker tonight and they allowed $ity to pull them out of their shape, meaning wasted energy playing reactive football.

Having said all that, Kye and Birraz were immense, whilst DDS worked his socks off trying to make things happen in the front third, so they can all hold there heads up tonight. Ollie had a poor game and when the boys see their inspirational Captain struggling, that must have an impact.

Om the penalty. If that was Maclaren take out it would have been given by the ref and it wouldn't have been overturned. VAR just confirms the referees bias for big teams.
At least we can't blame VAR here. The same cockhead in the middle got it wrong twice.
I've noticed that Beath will usually be mostly fine for 95% of the game but is incapable of getting the big decisions right. Just lacks the courage.

Great post @Ozhammer. This wasn't just one bad game. We've been on the slide for a while now

Positives - we're still top of the league, Birra and Kye were brilliant, and DDS was pretty good.

Negatives (there are plenty, but briefly) - Urena was terrible and looking back to his reaction to being replaced last time(?) you have to wonder whether there's an attitude issue. Saw him arguing with Simon at one point also.

Clisby had a shocker, as did Nigro - both of them guilty of terrible passing. Ollie and Nizz had their worst games of the season and Ballard was missing for most of it. Really missing Stens and I'm massively hoping he can restore the steel and shape we're missing.

The thing that most concerned me was Ruon. Way too adventurous in the first half and you'll note the first goal came directly from him getting caught trying to win a tackle out of shape and then the ball going straight through his manor. He did it again shortly after and we were lucky not to be punished.

Inexplicable coaching to leave Urena on so long, and then when Kuol came on, as usual, we didn't get the ball to him once. As for the pen - live, I said no pen, but after seeing it again and again I thought: how can they not give that (after the crap we've suffered ourselves). I reckon Kuol did get a little touch also.

But another positive - City were outstanding and the Mariners of yester-year would have crumbled. To play so badly and still be in the game when the pen was almost given says a great deal about our guts and resilience.

Now let's really give it to Victory.

WE were simply out played all over the park... if not for Rowles & Brigi it would have been a very heavy defeat...

Two things stood out for me tonight, first our first choice strikers are by comparison to most other teams slow.

Second they closed down Olly, with Olly closed down we struggled to hold shape ...

Yep, our midfield was nothing like the first few games of the season - with three of the usual four players.

Bring on hall, casella, janota, move Nisbet to the middle or bench until half time, change up the forwards up, this has to be the kick up the arse we need to do something with. Away Perth was the crack, this is the break, time to put a firecracker up the team, boys are doing well, just need a jolt to refocus.

That's because we put Ballard into the fire without any training during the week. Janota or Niz should have been in that midfield tonight. With the ball he showed he is fairly capable but defensively I think he was all at sea. Didn't help either that Boz didn't have a great game but he's earned a sub par performance with his absolutely amazing first 10 games.
