CCM vs Nix Away Match Week 8

He has started previously and still made an impact, many felt we were worse or at least no better for Janota taking his spot.
I agree. I guess Staj just figures there will be more upside quite quickly when Janota fires with fitness.
Also, I guess there is some pressure to play the more expensive imports. If Staj helped make the decision to get Janota, which I guess he did, then he has pressure on himself to prove it was a good call.

For sure. Same reason why Corica never hooked Kosta for poor form in the ACL despite clearly warranting it

Agreed, I was hanging for Dan Hall to be given a shot yesterday and was more than a little miffed to see Miller bought on. Not anti-Miller, as I have always had the view that he is a CB being shoe-horned in as a FB.

Whilst the same could be said for Hall, what I saw of him in the NPL suggests that he has more mobility and better ball control, so I believe he is worth a go in that position if needed.
Yes, agree. I haven't seen much of Hall but I'd give him a shot over Mills.

One thing I love about this game was Staj's comments afterwards, no resting on laurels here:

"A lot of things we did well today but there are a few areas that we can improve on," Stajcic added.

"The challenge now is what it always is - to improve on our deficiencies and keep improving our strengths.

"As good a performance as it was I still think there is quite a bit more scope to improve."

...and this here is why we are successful and can have hope of continued success

Watching again, Janota did better than I thought.
It’s just not as obvious as when Nizzy or Olli do their thing.

Janota moved the ball along when needed and avoided being dispossessed when in trouble.

Still would have Nizzy as first choice for now, but how good would it be if we could keep most personnel and build towards squad strength for Asian Chanpions League!

Let's not forget Janota is starting because Nizzy coped a knock yeah

Anybody at the ground - why are the cops and security talking to Shaun at the end of the game here?

Been a while since I've used this account, I'm usually the one behind the Podcast posts, less so recently.

Security came and told us to sit down due to Covid in the first half, which is when we first did "Stand up for the Mariners", we stood back up not long after a few chants and Matty's goal.
We got work that Shaun had told security to leave us alone, so we continued standing.

At half time the cops stood at the front of the bay trying to think up what to say until about the 66th minute when they told us that "The head of the A-league has been in touch and told us to get you to sit down. You've had your fun, just give it a break and don't stand all the time"
So, obviously we were under the impression that it was okay to stand from time to time.

So we all sat down, and I texted Greg O'Rourke to find out if this was true.
We kept chanting, but obviously, the atmosphere had died a bit.

Then, a reply from Greg, Shock and horror, the cops lied to us! He hadn't spoken to the police at all.
So we stood back up in the ~83rd minute and kept on chanting.

Then about the 89th minute the two cops and two security started to come back up, we all sat down again complying with their previous order.
They told us that "We weren't complying and that we had to leave".
"The conditions of entry are written on the ticket" - Yeah, nah, they weren't.
"You stood for two minutes, which is too long" - I love how they move the goal posts.
"You stood whilst drinking"

So, I asked him rather vigorously why he lied to us about Greg O'Rourke and if he'd like to chat to him as he hadn't done so previously. His open mouthed face was priceless.

Then every one around the 4 seemed to be in yelling at them, The second time the "Stand up for the Mariners" chant was used as a "I am Spartacus" moment.

Some staff jumped to our defence (I won't name names), and then Shaun was summoned and acted as brilliant diversion until the final 3 minutes of extra time were played out, which at the end of we quickly left to the front of the grand stand.

All in all, was great to be singing again and have a roof over our heads to reflect and reverberate our voices for a change.

Was hoping to be back on the pod this afternoon, but I'm quite out of it today, so I'll have to take a rain-check.

-Edit, Greg O'Rourke also said he'd be speaking to the NSW police force on Monday (yesterday).

I'm sick of being treated more harshly compared to over sporting codes fans.

I know this was spoken about at length on this site years ago but after hearing your voices on fox during this game I wonder if a roof is all that sits between us and other teams in regards to the reputation of our crowds ie: the lack of them.

The roof not only helps the sound waves echo, reverb etc, but can you imagine how much more desirable the seating would be out of the majority of the weather.
More people moving to the norther end would definitely make more noise.

I have friends in Pt Frederick that comment on the singing from Bay 16. It just doesn't reverberate around the ground.
