I think it was more the lazy header from Clisby that let them in.....
No, Miller was standing there watching Muller from 15 yards away but decided he couldn't be arsed running over. He must have been exhausted after his 14 minutes of play.

I can only presume he thought the middle had it covered (which is dumb, given Muller was in the perfect position to pick up a loose ball), because you can see him clearly look at Muller and go 'nah, he's okay to be right in front of goal unmarked, I'm happy building sandcastles over here'

We were out subbed tonight. Theirs were of higher quality and they pulled away at the end. Direct result of the resources of the two clubs. Even so they only edged us with a deflection that could have went anywhere but fell to Miuller’s feet. Aside from that, and their dominance in the end, our defensive structure held firm, and they had no other clear shot on goal.

‘’I have been saying the last few years that I just want players to give it a go, get stuck in and play for the shirt. I have felt this good about the team for years.

So with the subs....for one, Simon acting like a right knob forced Staj to sub him. Though maybe subbing Simon off at that time for Smylie was always the plan - but without Simon acting the way he was, Staj would have at least had the option of playing him for longer. Maybe that sub comes 15 minutes later when Simon is gassed, keep Nizzy on and he feeds a fresh Smylie and fresh Urena

In all honesty, I'd rather have kept Nizzy on and make one fewer substitution. Bring on Urena for DDS if you want to keep that sub.
If Urena is going to play off anybody, it'll be Nizzy. I think Urena needed to play alongside some more of our regulars and being the last sub probably did him more a disservice than staying on the bench, but hindsight is 20/20 and Staj can only work with what he sees in training and perhaps thought Urena was capable of creating something with what we had on the field.

Miller fr Nigro....Miller not being bothered to play isn't on Staj, IMO, it seemed reasonable at the time.

Draw would have been a fair result but as stated previously their subs were better than ours. However lots of positives with the defence still looking strong.Nisbet,Stens,DDS and Nigro had excellent games. Can't blame Clisby as at least he headed away from goal.He also did lots of sterling defensive work.Miller does look a bit down on confidence.

Urena looked lost when he came on which suggests two things:
1. He hasn’t had enough to learn our system and gel with the team
2. We haven’t worked on a solid plan on the training paddock when we go one goal down yet.

I would say both are true but I think more the second point as Smylie looked lost as well.

We played pretty well and didn't deserve to lose. Miller had a Barry Crocker and his defending on the goal was so Mariners 18, 19 and 20. Having said that he is clearly a good prospect. The lack of a defensive leader screaming at him to do is job was apparent.

Niz, DDS, Tonyik, Stens, Rowles and even Matty Simon were very good. With the 3 new boys to come in it will be us able to bring quality off the bench

That was purely the subs for DDS and Nizzy. Once they left we lost go forward and creativity. They needed to be subbed but the quality that WSW had on the bench beat us. It wasn't any of our players who lost that game. Unlucky deflection that could have gone anywhere. I'd back us in against them next time.

Just got home.
Thought we got the rough end of the pineapple a bit from the ref.
I assumed Kuol was injured.
Nizzy is looking more comfortable on the wing very week. I suspect he will finish as a creative AM. I think I said last year that I saw him as our best young prospect since Amini.
It is a totally different team to last year. We have stopped passing the ball to the opposition.
Lack of depth killed us tonight. Subs were needed, we were gassed but the subs were not up to it.
I have heard said that Miller is a centre back by trade. He is not a fullback.
Impressed with the organisation Ollie has provided. Our defence is good.
I get the feeling that the team got fired up early and burnt a lot of juice.

We have a middle table starting 11 that can play above themselves and compete with anyone. Late in the game many start to tire, especially with the style of getting into the opposition faces. At the moment we can possibly cope with one or two subs, which are not enough. We need more players to step up until we get an owner with a bigger wallet.
I will watch the replay before saying more.

Our subs were atrocious.....some Okon level subbing tonight.
Kept pulling off the players that were holding the team together. Kuol was having a good game, Nisbet WAS the team....even DDS was making a nuisance of himself.
Gut our attack, replace them with 2 newbies...and of course our structure collapses.

Smylie was outclassed tonight, I thought. He just couldn't find enough space for himself.
nizzy and dds were gased

Matty actually fired them up.... with his yelling and elbow...

We are playing differently this year and I don't see a spoon ... if the subs are the quality we think they are pushing for a top six place is possible...

Gotta remember on paper the Drive Bys are close to the best squad in the league and we lost on a break...

Miller will struggle to get game time... at fullback you can't switch off especially in the final minutes when you are fresh and expected to run and close down ..

Maybe its not important but playing on a cool evening around 20 degrees instead of a 35 + on a Sunday afternoon seem to give both teams heaps more energy and I enjoyed the game tonight ..

I thought DDS and Nizz were fantastic, especially DDS in the first half. Urena having Miller down his side didn't help, Miller was simply atrocious. I think everyone has said it but losing DDSNIZZ is what cost us the game. Felt strange to be on the edge of my seat with a chance to win it.

it was typical of kurt ams who's arm only pointed one way all night
Honestly I have no idea how either team can confidently say the ref was against them - and that’s not because he did a great job, rather he was just all over the shop and let so much go. We could have easily been down to 10 thanks to Simon. On the other hand the wanderers could should have had some cards of their own and were let off on a heap of free kicks.

My initial thoughts on tonight (without having watched the game back on TV) is that we fell into the trap of pitching a fight, which caused us to lose focus on our game plan. At times in the first half it resembled a basketball game and I would be pretty confident that wasn’t how Staj wanted the boys to play. Kuol was clearly pulled because of his yellow, when at least the same level concern (if not more) must surely have been warranted for Simmo.

Smylie had little or no impact on the second half from where I sat and so if Staj was prepared to gamble on Simon staying out there, he should have done the same with Kuol, as they were both causing the Wanderers backline some problems.

As others have said, the subs upset out momentum but DDS and Nizzy did look gassed to me, so their replacement was arguably warranted, albeit perhaps 10 minutes earlier (and therefore before their goal).

On reflection, I feel that some of the boys paid too much attention to the Ziggy situation instead of sticking to the game plan of controlling the tempo of the game and thus frustrating the Wanderers. Up until their breakaway goal, this game had 0-0 written all over it, as we didn’t honestly look like scoring tonight.

The boys will need to be better at controlling their emotions on Friday, or it will likely be another tough night.
