ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

I honestly think we are better off pumping money into an experienced coach. We have floundered since we lost our last decent one in Arnie. I like Staj but like the rest of the coaches over the last few years he has no prior experience at this level. Mulvey had a couple of years coaching a very good Brisbane side who had plenty of experienced players and leaders. Without them he would have failed.
Mossy, Walmsley, Mulvey and now Staj. To get the best out of a side that will be competing against teams much better financed than us we need someone with excellent man management skills and tactical nous. Lawrie had it and so did Arnie. We seem to have "lost" the changing room every season since Arnie left. Squad improvement will help but we have had some excellent imports who haven't had much of an impact here since Arnie. We need strong management to get us out of this hole and get our recruitment 100 % right.

You have to remember we were laughed at when Arnie got appointed with us. He had to rebuild his coaching reputation with us, due to his own personal rebuild, he was very driven for success and worked extremely hard to achieve it.

He was also backed with salaries. All good coaches want to work with the best players.
We wont pay for good players

It would be foolish in the extreme to sack Staj now. As to experience he was successful with the Matildas. He also has a 3 year contract that would he would have to be compensated.
The Club has a limited amount of money, to suggest we through 2 years of Staj's salary away by sacking him, paying an experienced coach over the odds (which you would be necessary), assuming one is available and carry on with the rinse and recycle we have had for the last 5 years would just be stupid. After the coach swap how much money do you think would be available for the playing roster?
Staj is not the hopeless case Mulvey, Moss and Walmsley were. Nor is he the stubborn train wreck that Okon led us into. Give him the time to build and clear the dross.

Even if you decided you wanted an experienced, high quality coach that would draw players, and they were available, why would they agree to come to us and be hamstrung by spending restraints that would only be compounded by needing to pay them a substantial wage?

I just don’t see it.

Even Alan's pedigree seems impressive given the state of the club.

Since when has something being "foolish" stopped the people running CCM from doing anything? Okon is/was a highly credentialled coach who got disillusioned and gave up when he realised what he had walked into . Just because he behaves like a narcissistic dick on social media and text doesnt take away from the pedigree he has
Agree that TW and MM were disasters that were easily avoided by anyone with a football brain or access to google (especially MM - what the f**k were CCM thinking??).
I wouldnt get rid of Staj either but doing the dumb thing is the hallmark of these idiots

Okon was an interesting one. My mail is the FFA wanted to move him out of International coaching because he was shit and paid half his wages when he came to us, hoping that he could learn his trade in the HAL.
He turned out to be a bit of a dud and never really gave a shit because he is rich enough to buy the Mariners.
Apparently he has a very large real estate portfolio which is why he handed the day to day coaching to Greedy and couldn’t be bothered to travel away from the Western suburbs.
So Okon was just another cheapskate signing by Charlesworth.

Another reason Okon was brought in was because of his supposed young player connections with national teams. They came to nothing because the relationships didn't exist.
Okon failed horribly with national teams. He was only there because of the old boy network - that which has held football back for years.
You only had to hear one soundbite to realise Okon was thick as well as useless.

Brought his toxic mate with him who got the best coach we have had at the club for years fired out of jealousy. Whoever allowed Cahn to go needs to be sacked.
Lucky Macarthur get his special brand of man management next season lol

Don’t mistake me for an Okon fan at all, but he did get us DDS, on a multi year deal that still has next season on it, who at that time was pretty hot property and caused a few waves. His first season was solid until “injury” and then ofcourse his big spitting of the dummy. But if you look back at that time perhaps he knew something about mulvey that we didn’t until we were to find out relatively quickly. And has been one of our best, without the goals typically though, this season.
Just a thought. And he did give us Tommy H and Wout Brama who personally I felt honoured to see in our jersey. Despite how many on here felt about him.
But yeah I ofcourse agree, okon was f**ked.

Probably more one for the CCMA thread tbh but here we are. Wonder what this means for Zenden Hart, who I was hoping would get the chance to step up this year following Munfy’s departure...
