ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

The Stajcic Era, a Partnership of desperates or a Marriage Made in Heaven?

At this rate, I would rather finish last this season with notable improvement from young players we've got signed on for next season and legitimately be in the mix for finals in 2020/21, than to come in 8th or 9th on the back of other teams being worse with little/ no real improvement in the squad and then do the same next year.

If those concerned are smart, they're already planning recruitment for next season.
I`d rather not come last at any cost.

What I see on the park is
A team with no direction
A manager that is clearly out his depth
Crowds disappearing from the games.

Staj text book coaching is miles away from the coaching knowledge of Arnie and anyone that thinks he is doing a good job is delusional !
He changes the formation not just every game, but every 5 minutes.

How are they supposed to play good football when the structure is constantly being changed?

I'm just disappointed. Another season of hopeful signings, and I haven't been impressed with any of them (except MAYBE Kim).

I planned to drive the 4 hours to watch them play in Round 19. I just can't be bothered now.

It can't get to the point where the real fans that have been here since '04 start to turn their backs. At that point, the club turns into complete dissaray.

Someone needs to step up and take charge.

I don’t like the 352/532 or 4222, and think they have failed on balance, and 100% agree that too much change is very problematic, but failed or not the formation changes have also pretty clearly been an effort to try and overcome some of our major deficiencies as a squad and facilitate the only area we have depth and talent in.

Namely lack of high quality CB’s. No LB. Lack of true pacey wingers, lack of quality forwards but a wealth of DM’s.

This kind of desperate tinkering is a hallmark of most coaches when they try to supplement quality with tactics.

But regardless, coaches need to be much more than people who just pick formations and Staj is clearly a very good coach imo for a whole multitude of reasons outside of his formations and I think forced changes/desperate tinkering,

He’s getting the best out of some key young players, shown he has the guts to bench and hook players even Simon and now Clisby. Even before he began getting rid of Hoole and Kennedy. Then there is the fitness levels. Proper analysis. And though we’re f**king up we are clearly way better drilled, really... (news flash) we just lack some vital key quality.

He’s also honest, doesn’t shirk responsibility, keeps his head but is still strong and handles the media well.

Those calling fur his head are likely just hurting fans which is understandable but I personally don’t know any football people who don’t think he’s clearly a good coach even though they also see him making some mistakes.

Well said.

At this point, I think we now need to get some game time into the younger guys. DRD has obviously got the skill, why not play him? It's not about starting something new, it's about sticking to something

I think that’s why we saw him off the bench, basically replacing Silvera, I hope we see more of him too, though with Harold joining, competition for minutes off the bench will be pretty fierce considering Simon and Weemac probably are the front runners.

I'm not convinced by DRD yet. The few times I saw him he struggled against men in NPL2. Still a way off from regular game time for me.

I think we have proved that stacking the team with kids to go out and get beaten every week is a terrible strategy.

If it's the price to pay for being in a great position to ad more major trophies to that rack in a couple of years, so be it. Better than playing it safe every year and finishing mid/ lower mid table. I don't fancy becoming the A-League's version of Everton.

Lopar was forced to make a save of the week contender for DRD header, i thought DRD was very impressive when coming on on the weekend

Great save but I thought DRD underhit the header and it was at perfect height fir the keeper to save it.

That goes in and we would have ended with a draw at least.

If Staj was at another club he would be sacked by now.

If Staj was at another club he wouldn’t be trying to rebuild a club who’s reputation has been in the toilet for 5 years without the budget required to do so.

That’s a ridiculous comment! Staj has been terrific for the club and, generally speaking, things are improving. What did you expect, a miraculous turn around in the first few months of a first year HAL coach on a shoe-string budget? If so, you really need to temper your expectations. Good things take time. The club needs stability in the next few years to properly turn-around and to continually sack coaches every season (expecting some miracle to happen in the first few months) would only add to our woes.
