I would be giving Milan a contract and then give him a scouting role over the winter. He has played in a number of the Balkan leagues and I would have him assist Staj over there identifying players.

I would not be adverse to all our imports coming from that region. Their players are technically excellent and they seem to appreciate the opportunity and lifestyle out here and work hard to succeed.

Their success hit rate is far greater than the South Americans who often seem to have a entitled arrogance about their demeanour.

put it on the Shaun thread

We would get money, he is a contracted player.
This is the model, get talented young players, sign then up on contracts then sell them off.
That's the club's funding model and it works all over the football World

Lewis Miller now signed for two years, so Rams can go fish. Their raid for Tommy will hopefully be the only attempt they land.

This is smart work by CCM and shows the club has Hopefully learned from the Millar debacle, Now we just need the re-signings of Birraz, Milan and Kim to be confirmed and we will look like we have the makings of a decent team for next season too.

Staj apparently interested in Carlo Armiento who was recently released by Adelaide. Also re Silvera, I never expected him to stay at the club for more than a season he’s got too much potential for a asian/European club not to take him

fark if silvera and tommy leaves....
I thought that was a wind up at first but Sammy is nowhere near ready to move overseas imo. He is yet another young player that needs to do some hard yards in the HAL and actually demonstrate his supposed talent with some consistency before even thinking about an overseas move.

These kids don’t realise what a sausage factory football is in other parts of the world, so I hope the people around him are giving him sage advice, as a such a move too early would likely be detrimental to his development.

This. I like what Silvera brings to the club but if this means we get a bit more funds to keep Birraz or get that quality CB or striker everyone is after then it's something that might need to happen. I think the future for us should be a quality spine with smart youth recruitment and actually giving them minutes like we have with Miller and Silvera.

On a non mariners note (or maybe) Margus has left Adelaide presumably to look for first team minutes. Where he lands in the coming days could give us an indication on what's going to happen in the keeper musical chairs game.

Spot on.

I hope he hasn’t had a hissy fit for being on the bench the last few weeks.

Could be the reason he's on the pine but then since the signing of Jair the shape has changed in favor of him on the bench. I'd like to see him in front of desilva for a game or 2.

Thats worth a look and if SS is coming off the bench give him at least 30 minutes to have an impact. It gets very obvious when some of our mids especially DDS are running out of legs. I wonder if knowing about this opportunity influenced how he was deployed on Sunday and also how long he'll be away for? I'd imagine he wont be back in time for WU on Sunday but I'd like to see him back and ready to take on the roar on the 25th. Since this has leaked the club should say something today.

.
I think Silvera needs a lot of work. Essentially he need to have ball control and work ethic of a superstar to overcome lack of electric pace or strength. He definitely needs more time to develop consistency, but some clubs will see that as an opportunity for a cheap player with potential. I think Staj has the best view of him, sees his possible contribution and plays him accordingly, which isn't often.
As for 'smart' youth recruitment in the spine.... The cheapest player in the starting lineup would also easily have the highest IQ in the team, is a spine player, and represents the best upsell potential of anyone in the club. Fortunately he is signed up for another couple. Again, Staj has got that one right.
For my way of thinking, it is all moving in the right direction.

Hi everyone1

Obviously it is a very busy period at the moment for the club with contract negotiations and discussions in the January transfer window. There are some things that are difficult for the club to comment on and officially we don't ever make comment on speculation but i did want to take this opportunity to answer some questions so I can to make sure that no-one feels the club is keeping them in the dark. That is never our intention, it is more that topics can be very fluid and quickly changing by the hour. For example if you asked me yesterday if Lewis Miller was leaving for Macarthur I would have replied there was a high likelihood, yet here we are very proud to announce his extension for the next two years.

Sam Silvera is still contracted to CCM for the next two years, and the opportunity for him to train with MLS club LAFC who has a lot of very similar principles to our club, is not only a great opportunity for Sam but also for our club to form a strong relationship with. This is a very short opportunity and we can all expect Sam back soon - these type of opportunities are important to our club and sends a strong message to all aspiring young players that the Mariners are a club where you can develop and move to bigger and better things. Many of the other A-League clubs are being criticized for doing the opposite right now. We are planning an official statement over the next 24-48 hours if required.

Tommy Oar has been given the opportunity to stay with CCM amid contract negotiations and talks with many other players are underway. Media speculation states that Tommy has been offered a much bigger offer at Macarthur and only Tommy and Macarthur will know the details of that. The moment something official has happened we will make a formal statement.

The club is in regular contact with all players and their intermediaries (agents) and we are actively making formal offers to players to extend their contracts. Some players have already indicated to us that they want to wait until the end of the season and just focus on the season ahead whilst others are very keen to have clarity on their future now.

Every player that agrees to stay or depart affects what we have available and the strategy for future players. This makes it very difficult to remain transparent to everyone on a day to day basis because a player who we might have felt we didn't have the budget for a few weeks ago now could be back in calculations as players we expected to stay decide to depart.

Sorry to talk in some riddles but hopefully you can appreciate why.

Fingers crossed that all the players we want to keep and recruit into the club see what huge potential we have and want to be part of something special, just like the loyalty Lewis Miller has shown us.

Don’t think so, it’s obviously his dream to play is football overseas and he’s taken the opportunity as soon as it’s came. He’s still gotta actually impress LAFC
The US is something of a retirement home for young footballers. It's a career death knell.

Can't see anyone actually buying Silvera off us as he is right now. Wonder what type of offer it would take to make us release him
