So why was Tommy playing left back ? Couldn’t foxy play there or GG ?
left wing back since it was a back 3. I think Oar was the best choice for his attacking runs. They were a bit subdued but it was his first time out in that role so I'm sure he'll bring even more next week if we keep that formation.

Was just watching the replay on kayo and theoretically we could of had 3 more if Jair and Muzzs targeting was on song.....speaking of which , does anyone think Muzz might be not as flash as we all thought he might be

I think he was the best striker we had at the club for a while, and we all thought as much. He looked to have a heap of promise when compared with Matty.

He may not come out looking to good when compared with Jair, who is a decent striker.

Muz burnt far too many chances and half chances for how hard he worked. He should have had a goal and 2 assists. Effort is good. Skills are garbage.

If we play the same structure/team I think Jair and Muzz will both profit. As I said in a previous post - they both have to be more selfish. Yesterday they were more concerned with setting each other up.

To quote Bill Shankly

If you’re not sure what to do with the ball, just pop it in the net and we’ll discuss your options afterwards.

View attachment 1507 What a night... still buzzing from it!

CC16 were more than happy to thank our Fire fighters. The moments applause was a beautiful touch. All around the night was brilliant.

Merry Christmas everyone.
Nice gesture mate. Did you guys manage to raise much at Baker St pre-match the other week when the club gave us all buckets?

I thought Murray put in a huge shift tonight. Exactly like Jair didnt

I would have agreed with this comment but I`ve just watched the replay, Jair actually did a fantastic job and played far better than Matty or Murray (who also had a good game) has this season...

maybe I'm alone in this thought....but I felt Oar was VERY weak defensively....I don't think he is the Clisby replacement for us at LB. I thought we missed his attacking runs because he was defending....but then didn't do a particularly good job at that. I was surprised at how far up the field Ziggy was towards the end.....several times he was one of our front 4 but I thought he was outstanding last night.
I was impressed with Jair....in both his defence and his attack. Sure some of his passes didn't come off but you could see what he was trying to do, and he is a massive improvement on the Mr Simon.
Duric is class. he has vision right across the field and is easily our most potent weapon. I'm hopeful (I'm always hopeful when it comes to the Mariners) that Jair's runs will free up space for Duric to bag a hat full of goals. Anton cant be so blinkered to think Duric is too old. We have to have some experience, not have all players under 23.
Kim and Rowles looked very good together.
at times we were VERY good....but at other teams we were leaking and Adelaide could have scored several if their finishing was better.

Playing Oar a LB was a gamble and probably cost us the Halloran goal (he gave Halloran 10m of space to work in) but overall Oar surprised me and I think with some defensive coaching he could be the fix we need at left back...

Did the club ever announce what was collected? - I recall chucking some cash at Pete in Bay Rd
I don't think they announced. I know that we raised quite a lot + Bay Rd put their tips for the day in and then some YA members did a run at half time which got some very generous donations. I think the OSC had buckets going outside the stadium as well.

Yeah been thinking/saying it for awhile. Wanting it not to be true, but he hasn’t had the extra edge he needs at this level imo.

However despite more missed chances I thought he played and combined well against AU. A fast player like Jair running at a backline with skill really helps open things up and Muzz as a result was making much smarter runs imo.

Also the balance of two capable wingbacks getting forward helped.

All in all, that was the most balanced we’ve looked all year. Besides Clisby, I was also happy with Staj benching GG.

Last two games against Adelaide we were bullied by Jakobsen and co and struggled getting the ball out of midfield. Muzz gave us the physical presence needed up front for this game. He did the job asked of him.

I suspect he is on not much more than minimum wage which makes him more than worthy of a place in the squad for the next few years.

i've been over him since the wanderers game . he just won't pull the trigger
you don't get 2 touches in the A-league let alone 3 .
i'd rather he had a go and missed . but he doesn't .
he'll get another run against perth but he's the next clisby

There was a goal he scored on the counter last year. It was a great finish. I thought he'd go on a run. But he looks scared to just pull the trigger and tries the stupid pass or the extra touch.

Murray does not think quickly enough to be a top level striker. He does a lot of running and is not selfish enough. He always seems to be a yard too slow in the box when a cross or pass comes in and lacks that anticipation that the top strikers possess. He also fails to back himself to shoot when the opportunity presents or takes too many touches( many Australian strikers do this-watch last year's WC and this is very evident).

Having said the above I hope his partnership with Jair flourishes and the two learn how to combine.
