Very happy with us tonight. We were easily the better side.

Birraz. 7.5. Brilliant. I'd like him to sign a 5 year contract right now.
Oar. 7.5. Excellent. Loved him at LB.
Rowles. 7.5. Superb. Will play for Australia at this rate of improvement.
Ziggy. 7.5. What a fantastic signing. I love this player.
Miller. 8. I rated this kid the first time I saw him play. Easily his best game and the mistakes are disappearing as he grows in confidence.
Kim 8. Outstanding player.
Stens 7.5. Passing is the only weakness. Superb engine and intelligent player
Duric 7. Superb goal.
DDS 8. My MOM. The best he has played all season. Sublime at times.
Jair 7. Good game. Our balance is so much better with him in the side. I think he will score next week.
Muzza 5.5. Great work rate. Poor finishing

Staj 8. Great work Boss.
nailed it . stens is a hard bastard to

I thought the combination play between DDS, Jair, Duric and Muzz was great. The only problem with both Muzz and Jair tonight was they both made decisions to play others in when they should have taken the shot themselves. Hopefully that comes in the next few weeks as they learn to play together.

Yeah totally agree. Having speed and mobility upfront in Jair helps Muzz’s game imo. I still think we need better from Muzz (must take more of his chances) but the combination wasn’t without promise and I’m impressed with Staj once again for seeing that and then for the most part it working.

And of course for dropping Clisby.

God bless us we have a real manager again.

I thought Murray put in a huge shift tonight. Exactly like Jair didnt

You’re tripping on this one FFC.

Jair put in and stuck it to them, made some of our best runs and I also saw him do some quality defensive work.

Edit* just saw your ‘sell me’ post.

Didn’t you see the runs and where he was when he made them?

Not just running onto long balls and dribbling till he’s surrounded. he’s making runs and taking on players when they are actually in front of him with superior positioning, Then carving his way into space and forcing them to foul or he’s in on goal or in behind. He was a headache for them tonight and should only get better.

Looks easily our best forward for mine.

I thought Jair & Muzz's body language towards each other was the most telling factor for mine. They both really seemed to appreciate having someone else creating or trying to create chances for them. However have to agree with PJ above that they both could have been a bit more selfish at times as well. I personally believe that both players have lots of a-league goals in them and as soon as they start getting their confidence back and the combination play comes together they will be a lethal combination. When you think about all the chances we had in the first half and the last time that we played played adelaide they only had three in the first half and took all three it shows the difference between the top sides and ourselves at the moment.

The bloke has played 1 partial game this season and looked like he could go 90 minutes for us if needed. As you say the defensive work he did was equally important, dropping right back to the box if needed to avoid an overload.

I’m impressed with the work rate and the attitude seems to be good. We look like a different team with him up front and you could see some of the weight taken off Murray. A friendly shoot farken from Staj this week could be all it takes to get them firing.

maybe I'm alone in this thought....but I felt Oar was VERY weak defensively....I don't think he is the Clisby replacement for us at LB. I thought we missed his attacking runs because he was defending....but then didn't do a particularly good job at that. I was surprised at how far up the field Ziggy was towards the end.....several times he was one of our front 4 but I thought he was outstanding last night.
I was impressed with Jair....in both his defence and his attack. Sure some of his passes didn't come off but you could see what he was trying to do, and he is a massive improvement on the Mr Simon.
Duric is class. he has vision right across the field and is easily our most potent weapon. I'm hopeful (I'm always hopeful when it comes to the Mariners) that Jair's runs will free up space for Duric to bag a hat full of goals. Anton cant be so blinkered to think Duric is too old. We have to have some experience, not have all players under 23.
Kim and Rowles looked very good together.
at times we were VERY good....but at other teams we were leaking and Adelaide could have scored several if their finishing was better.

Apart from the goal i thought Oar was good.

Was turned easy and gave to much space. He did a Clisby but his passing down the lines was good and wasn’t caught behind the play jogging back like connar pain when he was asked to be defensive. I thought he put in a lot of effort defensively and it was one bad moment. A lot better than Clisby was last week

Ziggy on the other hand was caught to high and couldn’t get back when moved to the right. He is definitely an A League CB not RB

Last night was a great result and the boys played well in parts throughout the game but let’s not forget that AU had some pretty notable absentees, so it was a good time to play them.

Staj set the team up well again, as he did against SFC and at least this time round we got what we deserved, after some great individual performances and a collective team effort.

We don’t yet have the cattle to dominate other teams every week, so it is smart coaching to start by making the boys hard to beat as the foundation and then adding layers of complexity to the plan to take the game to our opponents in the coming weeks and months.

Tough to pick a MOTM out of that one but I am gonna go for Clisby, just because his absence took away some of the weakness we have had at LB, which our opponents have clearly (and successfully) been looking to exploit. Oar may not have been MOTM and was arguably at fault for Halloran’s goal but other than that, I felt he did a professional job that meant the rest of our backline didn’t have to be reshuffled.

On second thoughts, perhaps Staj should be MOTM, given his tactics, line up and substitutions, all of which I thought he got pretty spot on. The possible exception was Jair for SS, which I totally get because Jair isn’t 100% yet but DDS was clearly gassed and we lost a bit of attacking nous when Jair left the field. Replacing DDS with SS could have really allowed him to play havoc with a tiring AU backline but we got the choccies anyway.

Thanks for the early Xmas present CCM, looking forward to getting another one on NYE!

I'd like to think of it in a different way. That is the first time we have had our full team which includes Kim, Duric, Ziggy, Kyle, Oar, Birraz, DDS, Jair and Muzz on the field at the same time. When you add the standout performances of Miller and Stensness you can see why that first half in particular was our best performance this year - and very good to watch as well.

Did anyone see the game on Fox ?, cause the blokes at FTBL said that Simon Hill rarely gets things wrong...how many Simon Hills are there? And what did he get wrong last night?

I think he quote was about Djuric and his ball striking and ftbl were saying Simon Hill was right again.

Yes I may have read this quote, Hill was asking is Milan just as good at striking the ball as Marinkovic was and therefore close to the best in the HAL.

I agree and don't forget the week before we were as good as a full strength SFC. It's something to build on. Confidence the boys can bank.
I was particularly impressed after we conceded, we killed the ball for the next 5-10mins to take the wind out of their sails.

It's a role Oars not played much if ever. So his attacking game probably lost the most. His defence was ok enough, better than we have been down that flank to continue with it.
Ziggy made the same errors as Clisby. Too high up field. He has bulk speed compared though.

Interesting that we have a maximum nine points against third, fourth and fifth; while only one point against eighth, tenth and eleventh.
