Maria for them was awesome in the first half, all their attack was down his side and he played a part in the first two goals. He is quality and made us look like amateurs. As expected with teams starting to gel more we will have to score and be more clinical to win or compete. This will not be the last time we are giving a touch up this season. I agree that Kim deserves a start next week. I don’t see us beating WU unless there is a dramatic turn around in form.

The jets just beat them but were under a huge amount of pressure in the second half. If we turn up the the Perth defence we have a shot, if we turn up with tonight’s it will get ugly very quickly. To add to our woes the Jets just stepped above us on the table.

Quite deflating.

I managed to make this game after all - and brought 4 peripheral fans along.
We left at half time.

We started well, but the 3 goals against was amateur hour.

I went to watch the 2nd half replay but accidentally caught the score so didn't bother.

After the last 5 years my resilience in stomaching these kinds of losses is at its lowest - sitting here right now I feel like I need a break from supporting this team for a while. I'm sure it won't last but I'm about fed up.

Progress from the spoon is good and all but I don't see us making the top 6 as is and we're yet to really test our pathetic depth with inevitable injuries and cards. Odds are it'll get worse rather than better.

Who the f**k leaves a game at half time???? That is just weak.

Heard a fair bit of wank on here tonight. Like Michael said.....the loss of DDS would hurt us and so it proved. Only Silvera gave us any penetration up the middle. We need to practice heading the ball coz Murray and Silvera have alot to learn.
Sadly Adelaide just have more quality than us but we invited them back into the game by sitting too deep.
The muppets slagging Ziggy have either never played Football before or never playing in a back 4. Easily our best defender.
Nizzy should have been brought on and Kim HAS too start.
Jair needs to start next game FFS.

I don’t think we need to throw it all out and start again. Sunday afternoon game so plenty of time for Rowles to get back and he will go back to starting. One of Fox and Tongyik will go back to the bench, Ziggy stays and Clisby will avoid being dropped because we don’t have another left sided back that gets forward, Rowles doesn’t do that well. If we’re going to see a significant reshuffle at the back I’d imagine it will happen after the Brisbane game where we have the bye to work on it for longer.

I’m expecting Staj to really push defence this week and get them back on track, also need to work on when to hold the ball in the middle as well if we’re in front. The long ball game doesn’t give us that and when it doesn’t work turns over possession a lot.

If DDS is back, Kim gets a start and we sign Jair we should look like a different team.

Ok so I have slept on last night’s result but have yet to watch the recording of the game but based on my initial view of the game, I will make a few points to add to the discussion.

Firstly, our full backs typically press too high too early, meaning that it is difficult to get the ball to them if the opposition press high as ADL did. Compounding that, our mids weren’t finding spaces regularly enough to provide outlets meaning we often went long to Murray, who struggled to retain possession. When there was meaningful off the ball movement, which allowed quicker transition, we looked ok but we only did it for brief spells, so that clearly needs to be worked on.

Our wide attackers need to be made to track back to defend and not stay high when the defence is under pressure. Yeah sure one of the DM’s can slide across but that then just creates a hole in the middle, which ADL were then clever enough to utilise.

Our defensive pressure was never really high enough from the start, although it did improve in the second half, albeit that ADL had pretty much put the cue in the rack by then. Our full backs were exposed regularly but more often than not that was due to the lack of wide midfielder support (albeit our full backs both needed to better at times). It is easy to blame our defence collectively for yesterday’s result but our ball retention and sloppy passing higher up the park didn’t help them one bit.

For mine, we missed Rowles every bit as much as we missed DDS for what they both bring to the side in their positions. That said, I felt that Staj picked the correct line up and formation, which should have been more competitive than it was, certainly in the first half. ADL weren’t dominant IMHO and the boys lost the game by not doing the one percenters on those three occasions in the first half. Hopefully these are things that can be fixed with the right coaching but if not, I fear that we are in for another long and difficult season.

Not sure how everyone is comparing this season to last season??
Under Mulvey last season we had 1 win & 4 draws in 21 games.
We are only 5 games into the season with a win against last years premiers & a draw.
Last nights game & result was disappointing but don’t lose hope guys, real change does not happen overnight.

The last few games I have really rated Kye Rowles defensive efforts. I felt he made some great interceptions and made some crucial tackles.
While we missed DDS I feel we missed Kye the most.
As for the game I felt we lacked composure under pressure. Teams are starting to understand that they can pressure us into mistakes and we need to have a better confidence in our ability to deliver the plan or a plan B,C......
Other thoughts.
-Tommy Oar is a class above at the moment.
-Sam needs to work on his defensive duties and positioning.
- Not sure who to drop for Kim.
- We are not the team from last year BUT our defence looked like it last night.

I agree with a lot of what has already been said but I think Kim would be the immediate replacement for Stensness in the line up next week as he had a poor game and Fox was sooooo lethargic for the 3rd goal it was ridiculous. Silvera was generally good going forward but his desire to win the ball and pressure the opposition wasn't good last night. In fairness, with the exception of Oar (outstanding) and Milan, the pressing was very lacklustre across the board.

Fox hesitated. If he hadn't he'd have got that. No good him looking at clisby. He was miles away
Yorkshire Mariners FC. You disagreed with my post. Which bit?
I can't be arsed to have a look at it again, but from where I was that's how it looked.
I'm interested in your view of the goal.

What the f**k is it with people disagreeing with posts but not explaining why they disagree.

After last nights game I would go all out with a midfield line that knows to hold the strong midfield line except when in opposition third:

Stens——Ziggy——Rowles
-Silvera—-Kim—-Duric—-Oar—-Clisby-
—————DDS———Simon————-

* I actually would bring Simon back in to give one more chance at headers and leading the team in a rev up way, until Jair is fit and can prove himself.

* Clisby and Silvera as actual wingers will give more width and depth to our play.

* With the 5 mids much more opportunity to play to our strengths in Kim, DDS, Oar and Duric passing to one and other passing the ball up the field more smoothly.

* We can feed Silvera and Clisby diagonal balls and get crosses or cut backs more frequently.

* It is risky at the back, but if the midfield hold the line the 3 backs act as sweepers cleaning up balls from the midfield pressure.

* If we could get through 1 or 2 games with this formation and way of thinking with a draw or a sneaky win, I think the fullbacks would have the confidence to move in correct positions and get the ball to the midfield safely.

Sorry Ads, but I don't think Simon's up to it anymore.
Unfortunately like it or not Murray is still going to need some work if he's to progress.
Simon was just so lack lustre last night.....

I was thinking about 3 at the back as well this morning @Ads but I reckon it would potentially look like:
——— Ziggy ——Fox/GG——Rowles———
Stensness——Duric ——DDS ——Clisby
———Silvera——Jair/Murray——Oar———

Could swap Ziggy and the middle CB pretty easily but I’m not sure if he has the pace to play that spot.
That assumes Kim not ready for a start and if he is you could move DDS wider for Clisby or Stensness but I do like him more central. If Jair isn’t ready and Kim is I’d be looking at pushing Duric forward behind Silvera and Oar.

DDS is wasted in the front row and Simon doesn’t offer enough to justify a space

I can’t stand someone coming on for 20 minutes and not giving 100% the whole time regardless of who it is. Chase every ball or tackle, don’t get caught flat and shrug it off. I don’t care if you’re 18 or 35 it’s not on. Lokolingoy used to drive me nuts with it, finally gets minutes and looks like he’s just cruising most of the time.

I was surprised by Miller's pace and suggest he will often be on the bench. However, the one I would like to try in a game is Hatch. I think he and Miller will be pushing for selection this year. Assuming no injuries and Jair is fit I would like to see

Ziggy ... GG .... Rowles...Hatch
............... Kim.............
Silvera ..Duric.. DDS .... Oar
.............Jair/Muzz...........

Spot on, I think his lack of enthusiasm might be a clear indication Jair is being signed and he is well on the outer. Majok would have tried harder probably for the same result but at least the effort would’ve been there.
