I think he played centre back for shitty last week .
He did. Won’t be there this week with Delbridge coming back.

I think we’re in with a decent shot this week. City are good and they deserve to be where they are but they’re definitely beatable. Most of their games have been close except for the FFA cup blowout where they collapsed. After knocking off Perth I think the guys will fancy their chances and really take it to City.

The weakest link is Wales - target him and he wont fight back. This is the kid who ran from a hard season at CCM and is a peaheart like Caceres, Fat Fitz, Reddy etc.
Smash him early and get over the top . He's one of those wannabe's coming to a NPL side soon
Real CCM is about hard work and never giving up, Wales doesnt have the ticker for who we now are

Lachie Wales really wanted to stay at CCM - this will no doubt be verified by the backroom staff. All he wanted was a 2 years deal, which we REFUSED to give him. City offered him the 2 year deal, he immediately went back to our club and said that he would stay at CCM for less $ than he had been offered at City. We refused him again.

To accuse him of running from CCM after a hard season is totally and absolutely inaccurate.

He may well be the weak-link, but if so it has nothing to do with his move to City.

We have moved past him, he can play for N S Mariners in NPL 1 when City dump him
We are coming back and people like him who "demand" 2 years when they have no track record are not what we want. He is apparently very keen to come back, we can do better as NPL is full of kids who can do step overs. Would he replace any of our front 3?
No, not even close

Bullshit - we run over the top of him every time we beat City. We have moved past him, he can play for N S Mariners in NPL 1 when City dump him

My post had absolutely nothing to do with his football ability. It was simply to correct the statement that Wales 'ran away from CCM'.

No doubt you are better qualified than me to comment on his football abilities, I'm guessing you believe we were right to only offer him one year. So be it.

The only thing I know for sure is that he wanted to stay and gave CCM every opportunity making it clear he'd stay for less coin than offered at City. In the end we refused to offer him 2 years.

I heard a very similar story the only difference being that once he started looking elsewhere we pulled the contract offer completely. I was surprised because I thought he was starting to show some form playing more centrally towards the end of his last season with us. The amount of times that head down hoole refused to reward his runs frustrated the crap out me.

Its funny because I didn't really rate him at NPL level and he came across as a bit petulant at times but I thought he really showed his class at a-league level both with us and and at city and think he would do very well under Stajic and in this current squad. Also met him a couple of times and like most young aussie footballers just a nice humble kid trying to make his way in the world.

Now I may be mad, BUT, why does everyone think a flight from Perth to Melbourne will affect supremely fit individuals, I flew from here to Holland with nary a problem and I'm a cripple... I don't get it

No need to talk shit about his time here - saying he left because he didn't have the ticker is simply untrue. That was an era when we handled signings terribly and we handled him terribly. He wanted to stay with us but we made it untenable - so he did what he needed to do.

I still remember watching him absolutely school Tom H down in that corner at AAMI park last year.

I'd have preferred that we'd kept Lachie. I'd be happy to sign him back on as a squaddie.

Staj is clearly bringing the best out of young players with potential and Lachie has shown enough potential. He's the style of positive player that would fit with our current philosophy and if he showed the kind of growth as we've seen from some of our other youngsters he could easily have started this season on the bench with some first 11 starts throughout the season. imo.

Flying five hours the day after running thirteen kilometres at high intensity really takes it out of the body. Add the emotional drain of that match and it would take days to recover.

While they should be physically okay for the match they would have only had a couple of training sessions to prepare for this match. These training sessions would be purely tactical because the players would not be one hundred percent. Compare that to the ten sessions they probably had for the Perth match and you can appreciate that this will be a tougher lead up.

Also, just being away from home, in hotel rooms and away from your own bed is tiring. I travel often for work and I am never right during the day because I not at home. My bed is my sanctuary and I sleep well there. I just don’t sleep well in hotel rooms and hotel beds.

By the time tonight’s game comes around they would have spent six nights in hotel rooms, played a highly physical and emotional football match and travelled the length of Australia.

I’m really interested to see how we pull up and also our tactics, like some I also have concerns about the short turn around. At least Melb should be cooler with a night game. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a few changes like Ruon getting a start. At least DDS only played 60 minutes last week.

City are a young team and I feel they did well last week against the Nix who have a pretty leaky defence this year. Their big question mark is scoring three times without McLaren every week he isn’t there. They lifted last week but can they do it every week. Wouldn’t be surprised at a low scoring draw for this one.

We have a reasonable team with skill to prove and fight in the belly.

But the real difference is Staj. He is out-smarting coaches and teams tactically week to week. I'm am really interested in how we'll set up and how we rotate and spring as there is no doubt in my mind Staj will have a plan designed to nullify and slap $ity

The only thing that might mitigate against the effects could be staying in Perth an extra night and recovering there

Yeah you couldn’t be more wrong on this one.
If it is correct that he wants to come back after City, I reckon Staj will be happy to have him. And practically everyone on here would too. And the majority of the fan base.
Mulvey f**ked him over after Okon did too. All he wanted was some stability via a 2 year deal. He didn’t care about money. He could’ve easily gone to npl and got a motza per game wage. City didn’t offer him more than us.
Are you pea hearted if you spend years battling through the academy and when your first team break comes you’re still on a poor paying youth deal but training full time AND starting aleague games and then having to working as a ref at soccer 5s just for petrol money?
I’d say that’s the opposite of pea heart.
And he’s also not City’s weakest link.
If he came back home he’d come back a much more mature and improved player.

Ziggy is going to need to be careful he doesn’t get burned by Wales pace. Best case scenario Ziggy has him in his pocket but that doesn’t really get us an advantage. If we’re looking to exploit something I think we’re in with a good shot at winning the battle in the middle. They’ll still push wide and fancy their pace so we’ll need to be ready for that.

That's a good point. For pace, Wales can run circles around Ziggy.

.

Not to mention it would also make it a lot harder to work around the day after recover session, I'd imagine - and to make it worse, sitting in one spot for 5 hours I'm sure is probably the worst thing for muscle recovery. And bear in mind a few of our players were cramping up at the end.

Actually, it would be interesting to hear how recover gets managed for these games. Question for the podcast maybe?

I don't think the short turnaround will kill us, unless we end up on the back foot for a lot of the game again.

Wasn’t the whole point of staying away to recover and minimise travel? I can’t imagine Staj would have agreed to a flight schedule from Perth to Melb that didn’t make sense.
