City need to release a player to fit in there new defender.

This will push Tongyik further down there pecking order after playing a few good games last year. Should we target him? Young strong and tall defender who could be a very reliable backup or just wait for Tim. Would you prefer him or Rowles and Rose as the backup CB

I’d love us to get a crack at Tongyik or Azarni. Think they’d get game time here and fit the squad but not sure they’d want to leave city but Paul is putting together something that might tempt them.

I reckon Tongyik would fit the play at cb.
Out
Ashcroft
Bingham

In
Tongyik
Cahill
Another cb and an actual striker.

Hopefully Powell has said I’m the man to backup Asdrubal after today
He's had 2 chances in the last 2 weeks to play someone in behind the defence and nailed them both perfectly. The run to get onto the end of DeSilva's assist was great as well.

OK - I'm just gonna come out and say it... I think Cahill is ridiculously overrated and I wouldn't really want him anywhere near our team, and that's before I even start on his "personality"... Yep, the guy scores goals where others don't seem to, but he's becoming increasingly one-dimensional... Those drops in from a corner for him to head in are the ones that get him there.
If we're going to throw the sort of money at a fwd that Cahill would require, I'm certain we could find better out there on the transfer market.

The man has done a lot for the socceroos and for Australian football, but he's not what he once was and he's not what we now need.

I'd say he's wants his job, not to be back up.
Hopefully we're not getting carried away after a couple of cameo appearances.
I doubt Powell would start next week from what PO said in the press conference

Usually someone out for so long has a bit of rustiness and there timing is out. He’s been spot on from the get go. Sure limited time but bloody good start. Done more in that time than Bingham did.

Also Powell offers flexibility. He came on as a striker then dropped into the #10 when trent came on for DDS

Everyone knows he isn't what he used to be but he is always in the right place at the right time.
ALWAYS.
Ok so what do we need?
From my POV we need someone to be in the right place at the right time to finish all the chances we are creating and to force Asdrubal to fight for his spot. Powell may be the guy but he's not going to be playing 90 mins for a fair while. He's got 30 mins under his belt in the last 18 months?? He's not really going to be pushing for Asdrubal's starting spot and we know the alternatives dont cut the mustard.
It's going to be interesting in Jan.
We have players that are obviously surplus. City need to get rid of a player and Cahill wants time on field.
I'm not sure what the deal is with McCormack and wether he stays the whole year or not.
Should be a fun Jan especially if we stay in reach of the top spots.

Powell's pace was execeptional . I'd have a 5er on powell being the fastest in the club . Outside of budge and appiah

Powell is a very good footballer. Considering he has been out for as long as he has, and still can do what he has over the last 2 weeks has been exceptional. It wasn't just the finish but his link up work with DDS. Blake would be an excellent back up to Asdrubs and push him, like us to get a physical forward as well that is great in the air. At the back, alot has changed over the last 3 or 4 weeks which has made us stronger. Golec and Baro have looked better together every game, in my opinion Rowles and McGing are now the first choice in their positions. We now have good competition with Josh and Storm coming back and Liam Rose to cover for the CB's. Ben Kennedy has had his chance and taken it.
So, what do we need? Given the development of the players that are currently in the team i'm now not sure sure. If we can get a gun/marquee striker then maybe that, and another back up CB.

Everything you say is true, but remember Timmy is very opinionated.
I would be concerned for the effect on the dressing room.

Outside his personality, I guess I feel a bit like that there is part of "The Timmy Legend" more so than reality these days. Much the same as I think for Berisha. Neither of them have been near as prolific as they are renowned for being, in the last couple of seasons but they're still spoken of in hushed notes because of the rep they built when they were at their best.
I'm not saying that Timmy is shite, I'm saying that I'm barely convinced that he's worth Marquee money, from a playing pov.
If we were to go looking for a striker, I certainly wouldn't mind one who can throw himself around and make a nuisance of himself with a bit of size. But id like them to be able to do so for 90 minutes and with a bit of a work and club ethic too.

The name "Matt Simon" springs to mind...

Loved Matty in his time at CCM, he's certainly contributed a lot but I think he's even outliving his effectiveness down the M1. We need to be looking at serious longer-term options for upfront backup, not into the past.

It was 'tongue-in-cheek' (but he fits Nebakke's description of what we need so perfectly). I continue to love Matty and his passion, but do not seriously see him as improving our side.

Similar type of player is Bruce Djite who is off contract at the end of December.
