ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

There not semi finals though. Its round of 32. Maybe the aleague teams if they lose should forfeit their place in the round of 32 and be forced to qualify

A tad unclear;
"Maybe the aleague teams if they lose (?what?) should forfeit their place in the round of 32 and be forced to qualify" (?for what?)

Its fairly clear mate. They lose in the round of 32 the year before and they should lose an automatic round of 32 draw and be forced to qualify in their local area to get to the round of 32. Why shouldn't a team like Blacktown get an automatic round of 32 place over us who couldn't get out of the round of 32 the last 2 years?

Your suggestions are unfeasible due to the simple fact that ALL A-League teams are in their off-season during this period that you say they should enter to qualify.

In fact some teams could be clearing out squads and be possibly left with even less than a starting XI.

I agree, knocking off a HAL team should earn the winning NPL team some sort of boon.

HAL teams should just not lose at this stage.

It's the beauty of the cup.

We are fans of an A League club and have a bias to that. It is setup to help NPL clubs. The best chance they have is against under prepared A League teams.

If we were Blacktown fans we'd say now is the time to get them.

Lets face it we enjoy NPL clubs winning when it's not against us.

I don't like the 32 over 4 weeks. It's silly but that's it.

I hate losing but look at how we played more than time of year. It's deliberately setup so we won't be functioning at 100%.

Lets just say well done Blacktown and pull up your socks CCM

It would be far worse than that. In the case of NSW, going through the prelim rounds/Waratah Cup to enter the Round of 32 would mean entering with the NPL1 & NPL2 sides in the 4th round - which this year ran from 29 March to 2 May. That would span the end of the regular season, the finals series as well as (for some sides) half of the group stage of the ACL... which side would seriously prioritise getting into the Round of 32 over all that?

@pjennings and I were talking earlier about international breaks - I thought that if we added in international breaks we'd get a season start of around late August.

I was wrong, it'd be mid-September (there are only three international weeks in the season - October, November and March).

But we're going to get to a point where we get to 12 teams. That's going to stretch our season start right back to August even without international weeks. With international weeks we're starting to play for points from the first weekend of August - i.e. we'd be in the season already.

There's also strong talk at FNSW level at least of extending the NPL season - they're looking to go to a 14-team top division, so you're looking at a season running to mid-September (so they're still going when the R16 is played - that's where they tend to start falling off).

Maybe we don't need to change as much as we think?

I can't see the FFA bending the season start from where it is now tbh. They get too much benefit from the clear air after the AFL & NRL finish to consider starting it earlier when its well & truly being drowned out by those codes' finals.

It's about a 31 week period at the moment. Good luck fitting 33 games plus finals (36 match days in total) in that period.

Clearly something has to give, and that's before we get to the continuing stupidity of not breaking for internationals.

I think they will leave it where it is, possibly start it a week later. When we go to 12 teams we can finish in late May after 33 rounds and 3 weeks of finals. When/if we go to 14 teams we drop 7 rounds and maybe put in another week of finals.

We should not have split rounds and avoid the FIFA dates as much as possible starting after the October date. If we must use them they can be used for catch up rounds in November and March for abandoned matches or ACL commitments.

I think our clubs are probably a bit too precious about turnarounds - EPL has 9 more games in a season than HAL and fits them into a period only 6 weeks longer I think. A couple of midweek rounds wouldn't hurt if we have more teams IMO
