ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Mostly about the great Bon Scott but a little bit about a defender we are trialling for the youth team:

Who should we targeting for the remaining positions given

1) as Tony said we are on a tight budget and
2) we have a youth focus

My choices

Defence - Callum Richardson, Harry Ashcroft
Midfield - Dejan Pandurevic - Tony cut him at the end of the season but he is only young and going great guns at Manly. Hopefully he was let go so that he could get game time and we re-sign him
Forward - Everton loan striker, Trent Buhagiar

I still like the look of Adam Dawson

On the other end of the age scale Daniel McBreen on an incentive based contract couldn't hurt

Will never understand why we let this young talent go, Carving it up at Manly United in NSW NPL1 Comp, was a hit in the Nike Academy going all the way to the end and now training with the Young Socceroos. Would have thought that met the brief of Storrie/Walmsley/Charlesworth - This means a recruitment charter that identifies players with embedded talent that can be identified, contribute on the pitch, developed and sold.
Well done Dejan

To be fair on Tony. I watched Dejan play a few times in the youth league and he looked nothing special. Maybe he was having an off year but even Slater looked better than him.

“Roy O’Donovan is a different class. He’s got a lot of experience and he’s exactly the kind of striker that we want. He can threaten central defenders in behind and if he gets half a chance he puts it away.”

O’Donovan knows he’ll ultimately be judged and loved for the number of times he puts the ball into the back of the net.

Don't know if this has been posted in another thread but it covers an opinion fr/ TWG on our season ahead.

The burning question for each A-League club;

CENTRAL COAST MARINERS:
How can it possibly win anything with its playing roster?
The Mariners were already struggling, having faded to finish eighth last season, and since then they have released a lot of players without putting any star players on.

There will be further additions, but it is well-known that the club doesn't travel well financially so it is unlikely it is going to make any earth-shattering announcements regarding signings.

That is, unless owner Mike Charlesworth uses the seven-figure amount the Mariners are understood to have earned from the transfer of their former player, Mat Ryan, from Club Brugge to Valencia, to spend on a marquee player or two. They could certainly do with that.

The squad now is light years away from the one with which Central Coast won the 2012-2013 championship. It's unfortunate, but a fact.

There looks to be a big struggle ahead for the team this season.

we do best when written off - good signs for the season ahead!

I'm quietly confident TW and our fit, fast and sharp passing squad will surprise a few this season

TBH, I'm not sure they're wrong. This year is about getting through to the end of the current TV deal without bleeding too much money or support. I don't think we're going to win a sausage, and if the owner wants to fill a large hole in his bank account then fair play to him.

If he could divert some of the moula toward getting the academy absolutely humming then we're looking good for the future, because we'll be able to develop talent, sign relatively cheaply and hopefully make a couple of bucks when the success stories follow that well trodden path of talented young Mariners, off to the airport.

I'm hoping to see us here for a long time, and that means not always necessarily a good time.
