ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Gosford Council rejects proposals to change names of The Broadwater and Brisbane Water

So apparently MC was trying to get the waterfront at Gosford renamed "Mariners Cove"

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/ne...d-brisbane-water/story-fngr8h0p-1226999619233

Councillors expressed amazement that they had been presented with a recommendation from staff to investigate a name change for The Broadwater to Mariner’s Cove, having vetoed the same suggestion more than a year ago.

The latest recommendation followed a request from Central Coast Mariners director Mike Charlesworth who said the rebranding of the foreshore adjacent to Brian McGowan Bridge would add extra meaning to the area and future commercial and social usage.

It would also send the message that the stadium and its vicinity is the Mariners’ long-term home, Mr Charlesworth said.

Personally, I'm with the council on this one. It was Brisbane Waters before Lawrie or MC came along, anybody in the know won't be confused.

Apparently the Wyong council wants to rename their shire to Coastal Lakes or something of that nature.

Maybe Mariner Lakes?

Or maybe Boganville?

Any suggestions?

Makes more sense for Wyong Shire to do it than Gosford, as Gosford is still a recognisable administrative capital of the region. What makes more sense is for one single regional council with Gosford as the capital. Having a single voice for the region would allow us to speak more clearly to the State and Commonwealth governments rather than the present system where it often suits higher powers to play the old divide and conquer game.

Obviously that makes sense but who is going to relinquish their position?
A lot of admin jobs would be lost & services could be maintained by a leaner more streamlined council bringing savings to the community.
Add to that the bargaining power you have mentioned & the people would be the winner.
So why would they do it?

You wouldn't necessarily do it to shrink things and make things "cheaper", you could use the additional size to deliver greater breadth of services. That means you might not use it as a reason to slash jobs, but you'd broaden the offering.

I strongly disagree with the idea of a single council, and if it had to happen then the administrative centre should be Wyong/Tuggerah (since it's closer to all of the major growth areas on the Coast).

I have no problem with joint bodies representing the Coast to government and providing shared services; however in terms of growth and infrastructure needs Gosford and Wyong are two totally different beasts.
